There was a very similar discourse when law enforcement was attempting to criminalize cryptography in communications, in the 90s and early 2000s, or to backdoor it. The really obvious use cases were state actor issues, but there were a lot of real and important use cases in threats from bad actors in the private sector.
Without Bob, there probably would never have been a Dagger project, and without Bob, Cash app, which is so far the best place I've worked, may never have existed. Holy shit. I didn't know Bob so well, but followed in his footsteps, worked with several of his former team mates,, and met him during the development of Dagger. This is terrible. Everyone I know, who knew him, said he was just a delightful human.
