Yes. I’ve been using two on and off. KISS and mLauncher. KISS is very customizable and mLauncher is magically simple. I’ve been using the later for a few weeks now. I love the text only approach.

SimpleX lacks the polish that Signal has, but it’s moving quickly there. Features like a self-destruct pin and the ability use it over tor/self-hosted smp server, make it pretty top notch. I’d definitely throw my time behind it I were you.
