Be a man capable of facing a breakup, losing a job, dealing with debt, and still saying, "It doesn’t matter, I’ll find a solution."

You can literally recover from anything.

That’s what it means to be a man.

🩸

"Get up, and be a man!"

This was probably the last word of encouragement you heard.

From a mother who knew she wouldn’t be here forever, or from a father who couldn’t always be present because of his duties.

That’s how we were taught from a young age. "Get up and be a man" meant standing up without a word, brushing the dirt off your clothes, and fixing the bike so you could keep moving forward.

We learned early on that crying doesn’t move anyone; waiting for someone to help us doesn’t solve anything; and if we didn’t figure it out ourselves, we’d be stuck there—and the longer we took, the harsher the punishment when we got back.

Life is tough and no different from a strict mother. It’s as if it’s preparing strong children, selecting the fittest, finding new ways to push us toward refinement with every fall—where the longer we take to fulfill what it expects from us, the harsher the consequences.

So don’t be afraid of falling or ashamed if you’re still on the ground: you’ve always figured it out, and this time won’t be any different. Trust only in that, and let it be your balm.

Find support in your own knees; we can’t rely on compassion’s embrace. Get up. Don’t complain. If anyone comes to you because of your complaints, it’ll be to kick you where it hurts the most.

Don’t think about the finish line today. Make the necessary repair or stitch. Sometimes, the greatest victory is simply making it home. Lay your head on the pillow: you’ll find a way. Rest now, but tomorrow, get up and be a man! Do what needs to be done. Be honorable, my son.

Be like a wolf:

strong in solitude

and supportive in company.

🐺

"A wolf, so hungry that he was nothing but skin and bones, encountered a robust and well-treated dog that had gotten lost. The hunger burned in his belly, and he would have attacked the dog without hesitation, but he realized that the battle would be difficult. The dog, strong and healthy, was a worthy opponent.

With cunning, the wolf disguised his intentions and approached politely, complimenting the dog on his magnificent appearance.

— You could be as admirable as I am, if you wanted to, — said the dog, with an air of superiority. — Leave the forest, abandon this miserable life. Follow me, and you’ll experience comfort.

— And what would I have to do? — asked the wolf, intrigued.

— Almost nothing — replied the dog, with disdain. — Chase away beggars, flatter the people in the house, and please the master. In exchange, you'll have plenty of food, leftovers from banquets, juicy bones, and even a few caresses.

Upon hearing this, the wolf could hardly contain his happiness. He envisioned a life of abundance and comfort, so different from the hunger and cold of the forest. With eyes shining with hope, he followed the dog toward the master’s house. However, something caught his attention along the way: a chain marked the dog’s neck.

— What’s that? — asked the wolf, suspicious.

— Nothing — said the dog, trying to downplay it.

— Nothing? That’s something.

— Ah, it’s just the collar I’m chained to — replied the dog, indifferently.

— Chained? — exclaimed the wolf, alarmed. — So you can’t come and go as you please?

— Not always — admitted the dog. — But it’s a small price to pay, don’t you think?

— A small price? — said the wolf, stepping back. — I’d rather starve than lose my freedom.

With these words, the wolf turned around and ran off, never looking back, determined never to trade freedom for the comfort of servitude."

To those who aspire to autonomy, the thin air at the summit is sweeter than the abundant oxygen in the plains of the domesticated.

(Jean de La Fontaine, in Fables).

"I am the sum of all the things

that tried to take my life,

but failed."

🩸

“If you can keep your head when all about you

are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

but make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

and yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;

If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

and treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

and stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

and risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

and lose, and start again at your beginnings

and never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

to serve your turn long after they are gone,

and so hold on when there is nothing in you

except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

with sixty seconds' worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!”

Learn to tell yourself:

"It’s only scary because it’s unfamiliar, not because I’m incapable."

"The first man who saw a camel fled; the second ventured closer; the third dared to slip a noose around its neck. In life, familiarity tames everything, for what seems terrifying or bizarre at first, when our gaze has time to get used to it, becomes ordinary. By the way, I heard that some sentinels who were guarding the beach spotted something floating in the distance. They couldn’t resist and shouted, ‘A sail! A sail! A mighty warship!’ Five minutes later, it was just a sailboat, then a coffin, then a bundle, and finally, some floating sticks. I know many people to whom this story applies—people who, from afar, seem grand, but up close, are worth nothing.” (Jean de La Fontaine, in Fables)

🔑 Author's Moral (Applied Law): The giants that inhabit our imagination become dwarfs when we face them up close. It is not our fragility that makes them seem large, but the distance we maintain from them. The eyes of fear always magnify what is uncertain, but the extraordinary becomes ordinary in the hands of those who dare to confront it.

When doubt weighs heavier than certainty, and fear seems greater than your strength, let preparation stand out.

"From Intimacy Comes Disrespect"

Excessive familiarity breeds contempt,

said Saint Thomas Aquinas.

It’s very common to be disrespected by those who grew up alongside us — cousins, uncles, siblings — because they are intimately aware of our flaws.

They saw our weaknesses and played with our failures, and for that reason, they think they can still do it. But the hand of an adult weighs heavier and wounds honor far more than the playful childhood scuffles ever did.

If they are crossing the line with you, I suggest you grow distant for now. Become someone unrecognizable, and only return when their disrespect can no longer find its intended target.

"I am not what happened to me, I am what I chose to become."

There were a thousand things I didn’t choose.

They came suddenly, without warning,

and changed my life forever.

Good and bad things I never sought,

but that found me, reshaping the course of my days.

They were paths I lost,

a life I never expected to live.

But if I couldn’t choose what came my way,

I chose how to face it.

I chose dreams to color my days,

hope to sustain my soul,

and courage to defy the inevitable.

Because living is just that:

not controlling what arrives,

but deciding how to remain standing.

"You’re their friend, but they were never yours."

A friend might scroll past your business story without liking it once, and that could be absent-mindedness.

They might see a post about your achievement another time and not comment, and that could be due to the busyness of their day.

But if this always happens, it’s time to be cautious.

The excuse of “I don’t have time” falls apart when you check the views, and they’re always there, watching.

No one is obligated to support you or return your help. However, those who are truly happy for your progress and rooting for you show it naturally. It’s always a genuine gesture.

If a ‘friend’ can’t even tap the screen to encourage you, it’s because something deeper is holding them back.

Your progress might be bothering certain people, and that envy will eventually manifest itself, likely in the worst way.

Stay vigilant about who you allow to know about your family, your business, and your victories. Protect what’s yours from outside negativity.
