As an American, they seem more civilized in most ways. I remember hearing about how sick folks would wear masks to keep from getting others sick 20 or so years ago and thinking it was so rad. The only way we got Americans to wear masks is to protect themselves and even then half the population freaked out claiming it wasn't possible to breathe and such.

I'd like to believe this but I think people are generally too content being distracted and complacent. For every person that opens their eyes to how twisted and dire things are, there are 3 that are content settling for scrolling on tiktok for the majority of their day.

I think nostr is great, and I'm stoked on BTC, but I want it to feel like it fosters a community beyond that. As much as I hate social media I do wish it felt more like traditional social media in a select few aspects. We need meme pages, we need communities built around game or movie franchises, or stuff for music like Grateful Dead communities. Maybe they're out there and I just have a harder time finding them given the nature of nostr.
