In Europe there is no free market, the economy of the nations is centrally planned through subsidies.

The percentage of taxes collected by the Eurozone exceeds 50% of GDP. A large part of these taxes are used to subsidize sectors that politicians consider strategic, but this never works, because personal corruption always prevails.

The result is that all technologies are born in the USA, Japan, South Korea or China.

This system of subsidies also applies on a small scale. Immigrants receive subsidies that allow them to live without working, and the same applies to local people, in many countries the incentive to work is being lost.

Private property is not respected either, favoring those who occupy houses illegally.

We have reached the extreme that some people live with a salary higher than the minimum wage required by law, and do not pay for water, electricity or housing.

Europe will become Argentina 2.0.

This is honestly such a hard question and it shouldn't be. What Lightning wallet do you recommend to brand new non-technical Nostriches that want to experience Zaps?

If any open source system adopts such advanced cryptography that only a few people can understand it, then you have almost ceased to have any gains from being open source.

There has to be a critical mass of people who can actually understand the code to be able to inspect it. If that number is 10 cryptographers on the whole planet, the likelihood of catching bugs or being captured skyrockets. We can get a lot of incremental privacy from wallets supporting things like silent payments and pay joins. Trying to push ZK crap into the base layer is a mistake, at least for the foreseeable future.

For those that are new to Nostr, hello!

What’s cool about it is that Nostr it is an open source protocol. It is not a centralized company, but rather is a protocol that individuals and companies can build upon.

This means that you can use many different applications to access it, or even build your own. And it means that there is no central authority that can take down posts or delete accounts; there are different servers operated by different entities that are storing the data. And there is no central algorithm for determining what posts people see or don’t see.

You can hook up a bitcoin lightning wallet to send and receive tips (“zaps”) on posts. Nostr itself is not a blockchain or crypto and has no token, but the Bitcoin blockchain does complement it well via zaps.

Nostr is still relatively small, and a bit rough around the edges. But the community here is great, and familiarizing yourself with the technology and concept is useful in a world of centralized social media. It is a new method of decentralization that balances various trade-offs in a novel way, and the protocol can be used for a lot more than just social media.

It covers government financial surveillance, surveillance capitalism, the frequency of data breaches, Snowden, Pegasus, Chinese export of surveillance tech to dictators around the world, etc.

Surrounding chapters are about CBDCs, encryption, and the intersection of financial technology and human rights so it all kind of flows together.

I figure that most people won’t read a book about privacy but if I can stick some privacy-focused content into a money book that will indeed reach a wide audience, it’ll educate a lot of people on the topic that weren’t otherwise looking for it specifically.

A decentralized social communication protocol offers a solution to these problems. Decentralized social communication is not controlled by a single entity. Instead, bits and pieces of the protocol are spread across the Internet, ran by independent server operators and independent developers. This makes open protocols like nostr much more difficult for anyone to censor, control the content, or take it down.

Freedom will win. We just have to build it.
