Although #BrokenMoney is about money and finance, I dedicated a full chapter to the topic of privacy.

It covers government financial surveillance, surveillance capitalism, the frequency of data breaches, Snowden, Pegasus, Chinese export of surveillance tech to dictators around the world, etc.

Surrounding chapters are about CBDCs, encryption, and the intersection of financial technology and human rights so it all kind of flows together.

I figure that most people wonโ€™t read a book about privacy but if I can stick some privacy-focused content into a money book that will indeed reach a wide audience, itโ€™ll educate a lot of people on the topic that werenโ€™t otherwise looking for it specifically.

Is it a type of book targeted mainly at U.S. audience (examples and facts are related to US), or do you believe general population of the world will be able to relate and follow along?

It focuses on global finance, especially because thatโ€™s where money tends to be the most broken.

Amazing, thank you Lyn.

So excited for this book! Iโ€™m a low vision reader - any plans for an audio version? ๐Ÿ’œ

Think she said on twitter itโ€™s coming out soon after the kindle version (matter of weeks I believe)

That would be great! Bitcoiners would be pretty disappointed to know how few Bitcoin books are available through Bookshare and CELA (accessible libraries in North America). Bitcoin is for everyone. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Eagerly waiting for audiobook :) -

educating people about the importance of privacy is arguable as important as educating them about the nature of money.

this is awesome.

Perfect ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

I am glad you added it in. I know a lot of smart people who donโ€™t take privacy seriously because they have โ€œnothing to hideโ€

Privacy in #Money is vitally important and should always be part of how we deal with money.

Financial privacy is essential to preserve individual autonomy and limit the power of government (whether authoritarian or not) in people's lives. When our financial transactions and activities are protected, we avoid undue intrusion into our lives and reduce the risk of excessive surveillance.

Privacy in the use of money also protects our ability to make personal and economic decisions without fear of reprisal or discrimination (in cases of authoritarian governments). If all our transactions were closely monitored, we might feel inhibited in exercising our freedom to spend, invest or donate according to our own beliefs and values.

In addition, financial privacy promotes competition and innovation in the marketplace by allowing people to shop for products and services without being constantly profiled. Total transparency could lead to the concentration of power in the hands of a few entities that would control and manipulate the economy (I think).

That is why it is good to make an effort to teach the public this essential point.

And which many of us come to ignore because we think :

"I have nothing to hide".

When is the Kindle/ebook version coming out?

The Kindle version is out already.

So excited to read it!

Now I'm sold. Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š

Can not wait to read it!

It's a creative way to spark interest and raise awareness about an important topic that might not have been on people's radar otherwise. Kudos for finding such an effective approach to spreading awareness! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ”๐ŸŒ

This is great.

thank you for addressing this major topic.

Can I buy with bitcoin?

Loving it so far, Lyn!

We need fungibility by default in bitcoin at a protocol level

Ordered, arriving September 6th, can't wait!

Privacy is so important! Unfortunate most people will gladly exchange privacy for convenience. That goes for emails, messengers, and money!

Sly, roundabout way...love it

An epub would be best from a privacy perspective.

Privacy is extremely important when the means to surveille have only gotten easier and cheaper in this day and age

The worry is how to get people interested in reading books about privacy.

Few people these days seem to be sensitive enough to accept intrusive measures.

Where can I buy the book with #Monero?

Indeed and it needs to be in there too.

It was Andreas Antonopolus who introduced I first heard mention 4 functions of money.

1. Store of Value

2. Medium of Exchange

3. Unit of Account

4. System of Control

Looking forward to reading your book Lyn.

Just got my kindle edition and I'm ready to crack that virtual cover.

Lyn what is your opinion on Monero?

It's a shirtcoin, offering a temporary privacy. You know it and that's the reason why you hold #Bitcoin too.

Love it Lyn

Privacy is so important. And a great way of drawing in those who would otherwise pass this neccessity by. Shall be getting a copy from my local Amazon ASAP. Bravo!!

Privacy, security and sound money belong together.

Looking forward to this Lyn. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

It would be great to meet you at Nostrasia in Tokyo Lyn. Are you coming?

Ideally Lyn i would buy in sats, for kindle and all the sats go to you. Is this going to be possible soon?

Newby testing out nostr. Looking forward to your new book, sounds like something that should be in school curriculum

#PirateChain #ARRR

false with a bit of truth, fooling people, racial discrimination

Re: surveillance, it is reputation (social credit) scoring that is then used either by corporate entities or state actors to ruin targeted individuals (i.e., retaliation for political dissent), which is the danger. For example, Canada's freezing of access to funds in bank accounts is the ruinous tactic that would be enabled with ease by CBDC.

That's a great choice. We should care more about privacy, about us.

wen audiobook Lyn?!

Privacy first!

bitcoin has broken privacy though

You so rock.

So true that money/privacy/freedom are totally intertwined. The coerced push to login (to our servers) on everything web is anaglous to Snowden's comment they own your phone, even if you did pay for it. The whole race to the finish now is due to the rate at which debt is spiraling out of control. They're hoping to reset in time ....

#[4] ah the smell of a new book. Ah I've been waiting for your book. Now with the hurricane I'll be lucky to keep what paper I have dry. I don't have water proof anything. Like in #1883TV being alive is better than losing material things but I've been doing this my whole life and I'm tired of it.

Appreciate you, Lyn ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿงก

Noble prize for reviews, now thatโ€™s fine writing.

Thanks Lyn for all you do. Iโ€™ve ordered this book and excited to read it! ๐Ÿค™
