only took a couple months 😑 but finally got profiles working in nostrdb.

Damus now queries the local relay directly whenever it needs profile info. Its always up to date, has access to every profile its ever seen in realtime, and is as fast as accessing the profile from memory. No longer do clients need to have a separate in-memory cache for profiles, which *drastically* simplifies client code.

The old profile database is buggy and is causing crashes on the current TestFlight build, so this will fix that and make profile loading a lot faster.

Just a small update but a huge technical milestone for nostrdb. Again, thanks for your patience 😁. Damus is evolving into something new 👀

Yesterday I saw an ad 🤢 for some cosmetics and heard something weird… not exact wording but “89% of women would switch”.

I’ve seen “social proof” on websites and apps but this may have been the first time I heard it in an ad. It was just strange to me. 🤨

“Would switch” ?! Huh? … if what? Feels like there is potentially a false or misleading claim.

Critical thinking and overthinking are not the same thing. When everything is a psyop, nothing is.

I know everybody's excited about the SEC losing in court, and it is indeed an important victory, but it's worth bearing in mind that Gensler knew he was acting outside the law long before the verdict. The largest institutions care less about what is legal than what they can get away with.

Given how long it takes the courts to rule, it is a reminder that in the context of the government's own misconduct, there are limits to the utility of law.

I never thought about the idea of not having siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins. So different from the way I was raised. I was raised in a town where your familial relationships and their ties to the greater community affect your own relationships. Where successive generations of families knew each other growing up. Hell I just got a rundown of the entire extended family in a nearby town because a clerk saw my last name on my debit card. They don’t have a common ancestor with me until back in the early 1800’s, but I got an update on all their business. Bless that clerks heart.
