Family is more important then bitcoin

I’ll be honest idk how I feel about all the bitcoin stuff lately. It’s nice to see plebs happy but also feels a bit wrong with the gov simping.

I have no hot take about it and my opinion is irrelevant anyway, bitcoin doesn’t care; just expressing that truly idk where this all goes.

It’s funny that the closer we get to ~*euphoria*~ the more that I question if it’s the “right” way. Then again there isn’t a “right” way, it’s just whatever way it happens.

The thing I don’t understand about the new IRS rules is whether any of the separate wallet accounting matters if all you ever do is buy, sell, or spend using the same exchange. And I’m assuming that moving between your own wallets still doesn’t reset the cost basis, right?

If you are new to #nostr probably the thing that helped me the most was following other folks follow lists. Then I interacted with people.

I feel like the experience uniquely prepares people to jump into bitcoin.

Proof of Work - practicing the same trick over and over again for days, weeks, even months until you get it or perfect it.

Taking Risk - slamming on a big gap or set of stairs is risky but the reward is worth it.

Civil Disobedience - skaters aren’t accepted anywhere. Can’t count how many times I’ve been chased out of a spot by security guards or police, just for skating.

Healthy Disrespect for Authority - ignoring said security guards and trying to land the trick anyway or mocking them as you outrun their fat asses.

The Ability To See What Others Don’t - you see a picnic table, I see something I can put over a set of 4 stairs and grind if there’s no rail or it’s too high.

Appreciation for Elegance - not everybody’s style is smooth but when you see a trick executed perfectly, it’s oh so beautiful.

Distaste For Shitcoiners - don’t tell me roller blading’s equally as difficult, the things are literally stuck to your feet (I say this with love 😉)

Maybe it’s a stretch but I see a lot of parallels.

People really don't realize how utterly dependent modern surveillance is on the idea that everybody is carrying a phone — which is always tracked. Their car has a cellular modem in it — which is always tracked. 99% of investigation is one guy and a search box. If you're not low-hanging fruit, you aren't gonna merit the Eye of Sauron of manual, well-resourced, focused team attention—and if you did, you probably planned ahead for it, right? Because it's not a mystery what would get you on Santa's Naughty List.

Anyway, the point is that even in a big city, the phoneless guy in a "covid" mask is going to be invisible to anything less than that exhaustive manual investigation — at least for a few more years. That may go away once they start networking all the cameras and having AI start trying to match up clothing sets moving from camera to camera, butthat capability is hard to hide, so it'll be in the news. And it won't work that well in places with less camera density and, perhaps, for people who wear the most-common outfits (the visual equivalent of a "shared fingerprint").

Remember: Phones are useful, but dangerous. And the people who will still wear covid masks to the beach are helping to normalize facial obscurity—regardless of their intention. Don't be mean to them. Encourage them to wear them everywhere. For passport photos. In police booking photos. At the customs desk. Family portraits! The sky is the limit—let them push the boundaries so that you don't have to.
