People should recognise that at some point in their lives they will witness “peak Apple”, “peak Google”, etc.
All companies rise, and then fall.
Nothing lasts forever.
Google and their 100 million exaflop equivalent, quantum machine.
Is there any connection whatsoever? Price discovery is really just a matter of exchange liquidity.
A barrel of oil is $75 and yet $2.7 trillion of oil are traded annually.
The total amount of USD currency in circulation globally is $2.1 trillion.
Being very aware of your own mortality, is all the motivation you need.
Even at age 20, when your life is 25% lived, 80 years seems like such a long time. At 40, as you pass the 50% mark… not so much.
Yeah, it’s very controversial.
I think they’ve had it for a few years now.
In reality nobody really uses it to check their neighbours as they can see you checking them, but everyone looks up the rich and famous, and of course… politicians.
I don’t know if “surveillance” is the right word? As it’s the default that every government has full sight of every tax return. They aren’t doing any extra surveillance at all, they are doing extra publishing.
This is extreme transparency.
Double counting their users is an interesting point.
In Norway, every tax return from every citizen can be viewed on public internet.
You can see exactly how much your neighbours earned last year. You can also see exactly who has searched up your return.

Anyone see the U21 Euro final?
In the UK in 2023, the only difference between middle class and working class is whether you spend your money on cars or schools.
In reality both terrible investments.
I have some free time next week.
Really hoping to make some yards on my nostr web UI. Let’s see how that works out. I honestly don’t care if nobody but me ever uses it. 😂
No, you can do a lot of those things now.
Tiny Corp looks very interesting for this stuff.
Threads will cost Meta a lot of money, because it mainly moves eyeball time from Instagram to a Twitter clone.
Instagram is an e-commerce and advertising juggernaut. Twitter clones are not.
It’s probably Zuckerberg’s own political motivations driving it. Not sure it makes sense through any other framing?
Since ~2003 you can build a 10 billion dollar company without needing more than 50 people.
Nostr already has more than 50 developers. 🤔
Since 2023 with AI tools, this 50 figure probably collapses to 5 people. 😁🤖
It would not surprise me if 20 years from now, there are 100 assets that emerge from this community with combined worth of a tech giant.
It somehow feels likely.
It will be messy and clunky, there will be set backs and it will be hard, but it will advance in a punctured manner. It’s going to advance. Once you see it, you can’t deny it.
I said earlier in the year that zaps could grow to USD 1 trillion / yr equivalent in capital flow after a decade, and I still think that’s possible especially after seeing zaps pass the 10^6 zap event milestone in first few months.
What do others think?
My opinion hasn’t blunted at all since November. It’s only been validated again and again, as time has passed.
Yes, and also the high taxes.
Japan spends $260 billion servicing its debt.
They spend about $4,500 per worker on just servicing their national debt. Average income is $45,000.
So around 10% of your income in Japan, is wasted on continuing their broken financial system. This 10% figure will continue to rise.
Where the existence of something necessarily produces more of it, in an exponential way.
GDP is $23T and growing at 3%
Debt is $32T and growing at 6%
The debt is paid from GDP at a service rate of 5%. See the problem?
At some point in the future even 100.00% of GDP will not be enough to service the debt.
National debt is benign in a lot of conditions, but if you lose control of it like this, you get locked into an inescapable malthusian catastrophe.
I note that the Bitcoin founder will…
Never complain, never explain.
