mountain man, seeking truth, running bitcoin

In strength training, it's ok to fail a squat. It's not ok to half ass it.

I understand the sentiment, but can you please elaborate. What are the different ways a mint runner can glean information about the eCash users? Something I can imagine: tracking ip addresses? monitoring in/out on-chain or lightning payments and connecting then to tokens? what else?

From the end users perspective, eCash has the same tradeoffs as custodial lightning, you are giving up control over your keys and therefore increasing your chances of getting rugged. However eCash provides better functionality(bearer token, offline transactions etc) and (perfect) privacy compared to custodial lightning. I'm looking forward to seeing custodial wallets like nostr:npub1hcwcj72tlyk7thtyc8nq763vwrq5p2avnyeyrrlwxrzuvdl7j3usj4h9rq integrate eCash.

Someone asked me today if a particular action was moral. As I considered the question for a minute, I realized that I do not have a fully formed view about morality. Does that make me amoral? πŸ€”

What if it stays at $58k for another year or another decade? That would be ideal. It will force everyone to stay humble and just keep stacking sats.

Alas, the fixed supply makes this impossible 😒

I don't see Google fighting for the open web either. And I do think that this will put Google chasing incremental revenue. That need not be the end of the company, but the place I joined to move the web forward is done.

It was good while it lasted. Now we have Bitcoin and Nostr to take us forward.

We have launched our new podcast, Mr Obnoxious, and our first episode is out - UAPs, Simulation Theory and Consciousness with Matthew Pines.

https://www.mrobnoxious.com/episodes/matthew-pines-uaps-simulation-theory-consciousness-001

Over the next week we will be releasing the following:

- Gavin Sathianathan on the medical Cannabis industry and it's alignment with #Bitcoin

- Anna Chekhovich, covering Putin's Russia, corruption and the need for privacy with money

- Allen Farrington on the broken capitalist system, misallocation of human and financial capital and the need for a sound money standard

Thank you for all the feedback so far, loads of good stuff coming and this is the natural evolution of the show.

Big love 🀘

Mr Obnoxious is an odd name. When I think of you, obnoxious is NOT a word that comes to mind! Why did you pick it?

There's a list of the four calendars on https://opentimestamps.org/; each calendar has a website showing you stats.

The most frequent transactions at the moment are done by https://alice.btc.calendar.opentimestamps.org/, on average once every 5 hours at a cost of 20,000sats/week.

Thanks. Open timestamps is a fascinating project.

I noticed that the transactions are using Segwit. Would there be any significant savings by switching to Taproot?

To be pedantic, I'm not personally paying for OpenTimestamps transaction fees. There's a community fundraiser for that: https://geyser.fund/project/opentimestamps and the calendars themselves accept funds directly to their wallets.

Last time I pushed for donations was in January, and I got enough donations to last until now (most donations, by value, were not sent through geyser).

I'll probably run out of donated funds again in another 2-4 months. FWIW I share the funds donated to my calendars (and through geyser) with the other calendars.

how often do the calendars publish on chain? Is there a way to track those transactions on a website like mempool.space?

Applying Benford's law to the $ price of Bitcoin, we should see a brief period in the 80-90s before we head past 100k. Till then, let's stay humble and stack some sats 🧘

In the most recent episode of ATP, Marco mentioned that in his view Tesla is likely the best electric car manufacturer at the moment. He then said that he will not buy a Tesla car because of "political reasons". Am I the only one who finds this weird? Are there other people out there who intentionally choose to buy inferior products as a way to signal their political views? πŸ€”
