With nodeless shutting down, #damus working on free translations, and translate.nostr.wine now in damus as a translation option, NoKYCTranslation registration (getting a new API key and adding sats) will be shutting down soon. Those still using our service will have until the end of year to keep using the translator, which will shut down December 31, 2023.
We highly recommend trying translate.nostr.wine for damus users.
Nodeless was wonderful for lightning payments, especially when we didnāt get enough recurring payments to make running our own lightning node worth it. Thank you to nostr:npub1utx00neqgqln72j22kej3ux7803c2k986henvvha4thuwfkper4s7r50e8 for running such a great service.
We are still committed to Nostr and the devs behind NoKYCTranslate have other projects in the works :)
We're excited to announce that we've switched over to #nodeless for our payment processing. Thanks to nostr:npub1utx00neqgqln72j22kej3ux7803c2k986henvvha4thuwfkper4s7r50e8 for building a great service.
Signing up or adding sats should be working as before, except you'll get a nodeless.io checkout link instead of a BTCPayServer checkout link.
We have more features planned for translations on #nostr and would love any feedback / ideas you have for us.
We're updating our registration page today at https://nokyctranslate.com. There may be some temporary issues registering new API keys or adding sats to existing API keys.
Our translator service will be unaffected, so if you already have an API key, your notes should still be translated without interruption.
Please reach out if you have any questions or issues!
Hereās a early draft of a possible way we can define Nostr services in a common way. It has a lot of gaps, however I'd like to start by gather use-cases we want to support.
Ideally other services can include premium relays, CDNs, trending APIs, POW, etc.
Early feedback welcome. Can create a formal PR/Issue for this, so we can collaborate more easily.

A process to automatically obtain an API key is pretty great - it would need to enable payments.
Sounds like it could be simple⦠do a handshake, client sends API Key and a ln invoice, invoice prompts user and they can pay⦠done?
Weāre working on a āsettingsā page to give you more fine grained control over your translations. Are these features youād use? Do you have other features youād like to see? Let us know and weāll add sats to your API Key!
Currently planned features:
- Set a character limit on translations to prevent translating long notes when using auto translate
- Add āknown languagesā that will never be translated (for those of you who speak multiple languages)
- Choose between different AI models (weāll be adding GPT based models soon among others)
Hi, if you paste your API key on the website and click ācheck balanceā it will show your balance.
Let us know if you still have trouble
Big update: we now filter out many types of data that are not natural language! This optimization means translating notes with links will be 2-10x cheaper.
Right now we are filtering:āØ- hyperlinks
- nostr:⦠links, like npubs, notes, etc
- relay links
- cashu links (worst offenders, nuts are surprisingly bigā¦. links š )
Auto translate is safer to use now!
Is there a data type weāre missing? Let us know and weāll filter that too.
Also, weāve credited everyoneās existing API keys +1000 sats as a thank you for bearing with us while we continue to improve!
Smaller updates:
- Our bot will now send you a DM when your balance runs out, if you provided your npub. You only need to provide your npub once, so donāt have to provide it again when adding more sats to your API Key

The cost of 0.1 sats per character ONLY applies to the input text, not the output text. So the length of the original note determines the cost regardless of the length of the output text.
Our translation service is now listed in the latest #damus test-flight build under the settings > translation > service provider drop down menu.
Benefits:
- only need to enter an API key, not the URL anymore
- thereās a link to the website making it easier than ever to get an API key / check your balance / add funds

You can now provide your npub (optional) when you add sats to your API Key on our website https://nokyctranslate.com and our bot (coming soon) will DM you when your balance is low.
You can still manually check your balance if you donāt wish to provide your npub.

But this doesnāt prohibit us from having verified translations right?
Our translation service could publish a public key and send over a translation string along with a hash? Then client or even user can do the verification to see if the translator service actually signed it and the translation isnāt modified?
Which event type should we use? Anyone already doing this where I can read about it?
Iāve been thinking this is important for translations too. Third-party translation services (like ours) could be modified in transit or by the client. Right now thereās no event associated with it and no way to know if itās been modified.
#[6]ā have you thought about this?
I did a test DM and didnāt get a notification, do you have instructions for how it works? Hereās my convo with the bot, I sent the test DM to that npub after I paid the V4V invoice, hereās some screenshots. I also verified the DM went through using damus.

Some clients havenāt been showing notifications promptly for us - we apologize for any delays in getting back to you.
Question for the dev community:
Are there any #nostr tools to notify you if someone has sent you a DM, replied to a post, or tagged you, that IS NOT a Nostr client? If not, we may build a tool - something like where you can get a text message whenever someone DMs you, etc.
#[1]ā #[2]
Sent you a DM - check the suggestions I gave and let me know if that fixes it.
Appreciate the shout out #[0]ā ! Thanks for all the work you do keeping us nostriches up to speed šā”ļøš¤
