Genuinely interested in others thoughts on this. I think if you’re making something valuable for the community, your country, the world, etc. and you want to draw attention to your project in an authentic way then it’s fair game to zap gratuitously to community members who might share your vision (if only they saw it) and draw attention to your npub. I don’t think that big obvious targeted zap “ads” on Nostr will ever have a good ROI because people will see through that as lame, contrived or even simping depending on the npub you zap. You could even get a negative ROI by getting muted if you are completely tone deaf. If you’ve got the budget, spreading zap love to smaller accounts for awesome shit they post should naturally draw positive attention- but the real reward if you do this right is you gather a dope community around you who all support each other. That’s the magic nostr potential right there.

I’m sorry you feel like that. We zap posts that we find newsworthy, funny, informative or otherwise of value. Usually the posts are related to what we do (Bitcoin related products). We manually zap just a handle of posts a day - nothing automated, scammy or hundreds of1 Sat zaps.
You’re right, Nostr isn’t Google ads, the zaps going directly to the content maker which we think is pretty cool. As nostr is free for anyone to say what they like, if we choose to put details of our services in the zap so be it :-)
We’re just trying it out, if people don’t like it, it won’t create any new business, and therefore not viable and we’ll try something else. Just market dynamics and us learning as we go. Until then, just mute us.

Classy response, bravo. Taking notes here. If people don’t like the zaps and it doesn’t create any new business then you funded Nostr users instead of a centralized platform for no gain to yourself. Seems fair to me. There’s gonna be some kind of advertising on Nostr especially on relays/clients that aren’t paid. There will likely also be paid ones that filter out all commercial content- which could also be cool. The best part about this whole thing is we all get to choose our sandbox.
