Genuinely interested in others thoughts on this. I know nostr:npub1hu3hdctm5nkzd8gslnyedfr5ddz3z547jqcl5j88g4fame2jd08qh6h8nh and nostr:npub1cj8znuztfqkvq89pl8hceph0svvvqk0qay6nydgk9uyq7fhpfsgsqwrz4u did a great talk on this in Prague last year. Anyone other businesses trying it? What works / doesn’t work or found to be “best practice”?

From a user standpoint I love the idea of companies paying users directly instead of companies paying other companies to then use harvested user data. Perhaps clients could offer users better options on filtering what content they do and don’t see in zap comments, but the practice of zapvertising itself is great.

I wonder whether the visibility in some clients varies somewhat. Damus and Primal are pretty discrete.

It does vary. Here are screenshots of one of my notes that got a lot of zaps for comparison in Primal, Nostur, and Nostrudel. I don’t have any others installed right now to check. Primal is very clean. Nostur is decent but displays them a bit more cluttered. NoStrudel defaults to showing reactions and you have to click into the note stats to even see the individual zaps at all, so not very useful for zapvertising.

Hello, Ben.

I didn't mean to make this into some sort internet argument and I have no malice towards you. Especially with how small our network is. Nostr protocol doesn't have native ads and that makes it a special place worth protecting. Good luck with your business.

I think if you’re making something valuable for the community, your country, the world, etc. and you want to draw attention to your project in an authentic way then it’s fair game to zap gratuitously to community members who might share your vision (if only they saw it) and draw attention to your npub. I don’t think that big obvious targeted zap “ads” on Nostr will ever have a good ROI because people will see through that as lame, contrived or even simping depending on the npub you zap. You could even get a negative ROI by getting muted if you are completely tone deaf. If you’ve got the budget, spreading zap love to smaller accounts for awesome shit they post should naturally draw positive attention- but the real reward if you do this right is you gather a dope community around you who all support each other. That’s the magic nostr potential right there.

#InkblotArt does zapvertising as a reward

Personally, I like how Amethyst displays zaps and reactions on notes. I can expand if I want the details, but messages aren't foisted upon me in the thread unless I'm intentionally looking for it. Damus on the other hand prioritizes advertising via zaps in a very fiat way.

Hi Ben, I stumbled across this page https://footstr.com/zapvertise/ whilst hunting for zap memes (so few 😢) and it says 'zaps are ordered by amount, with the highest value zap at the top'.

Is this right or dependent on the client? I can't see anything on Amethyst

ooh no, Amethyst is the only client sending me push notifications of zaps with notes attached

This will really be dependent on the client.

#Primal for example shows the top zap under the post without clicking on zaps to see them all.

With nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955, you just see the number of zaps on the post and have to go into the zaps to see them. Not sure it always used to be like that.

How cool is this, If you put just url in message amethyst shows link preview
