What's something that you would like to see in an intro to radio communications slideshow/presentation that you may have wish was covered differently or more in depth in other intro to comms material?

It just depends on ionospheri conditions. When it's right it could be as little as a couple watts

I have mine but was just thinking about starting my 8 year old studying the other day as part of his homeschool 😊

I actually have a lot of qsos with VarAC. Any time I can cq I get a quick response and often have people connect to my beacon to say hi or leave a vmail. The relay capabilities etc are pretty cool. I usually leave my beacon on 20 or 40 meters so check in some time and see if I'm around. NR5P

Spotty reception with a handheld. I should build one of those handheld beams

Got my kids and the ISS in the same photo tonight while we listened to it pass overhead

I should look at js8call. I guess Varac can transfer files which js8call maybe can't do? But realistically that's probably not very useful over hf

Anyone experimenting with varAC ham radio digital mode? It would be an excellent digital mode in the event of infrastructure down event. Has keyboard to keyboard, vmail(like emails over air), beaconing, ability to relay or query others for last heard time of a station. Unfortunately the Vara modem is not open source😞. It's free to use but can do faster speeds (higher bandwidth) with the purchase of the license. But it's the best like this ive seen so far.

NR5P is my call btw and I've been leaving my beacon on 20 meters VarAC calling frequency all the time. So if you are using it from me a vmail #varac #ham radio

This is probably the best intro I've seen about it
