Capital by definition is the difference in power over others. Capitalism is the creation of that power. Freedom tech that profiteers is a contradiction. If freedom requires gatekeepers asking for money its not freedom. A nostr obsessed with zaps and money will undermine the gains nostr could make to create greater freedoms. Rich people never gave people more freedom. Thats why they are rich.
you might be confused about what algorithms are

https://www.learning.com/blog/7-examples-of-algorithms-in-everyday-life-for-students/
No I am not confused. I just also know the difference between tying your shoelaces and programming a computer to 'recommend' posts. That they are both considered algorithms is utterly irrelevant to that.
Yeah, but even if we forget the pedantry (we were obviously talking in-silico computational algorithms), the question was what algorithm is better?
If I already know a group of people I want to follow based on shared interests why should I want an algorithm? They, real people, people I like and trust, will recommend me posts and people to follow. What algorithm can be better than that?
But what if you want no algorithm? Like in the real world.

This is why bitcoin lightneing will never take off. This is gobbledygook to most people, even bitcoin and nostr enthusiasts. All these wallet app devs seem only to talk to themselves rather than the public they want to adopt. Its far to complicated to understand what all these elements thats go into creating an app like this are, but when it ends with subscription offerings my first thought is, why? Why would I go through all this when I can just use paypal, nothing NOTHING is self custodial UNLESS you are a expert on bitcoin and programming wallets and running servers. Thats only a fraction of percentage of CURRENT bitcoin enthusiasts. The general public will never adopt any of this. . Its far too diffcult to understand what is happening and what the point is. Its also costly. Compared to current options, what are the benefits. Subscription means relying on servers. Self hosting is a none starter.
Why does ublock have 78 (SEVENTY EIGHT!) tracker blocks on iris.to (and many other nostr clients have similar numbers for that matter). This makes me wonder if nostr is going to end up worse than other traditional social media for data harvesting. I might as well be using google, twitter or facebook since they are following me around on here anyway.
Until I write a client that gives 'recommendations'. I mean even Mozilla tries to sell that as a 'feature' in firefox now. Sadly people love being fed things by AI black boxes. They like getting angry and emotional. That the reason they log on at all when they aren't just working.
The problem is that people seek strong emotional reactions in a world that bores them with jobs they don't enjoy. It's what makes them want to use social media. For excitement. You are right tho, its not healthy. I don't think nostr will solve it. I just saw a post on here saying how great it could be to have AI serve us recommendations based on interests and past posts. But if what interests us is emotioanl reactions the AI will figure that out and serve us those. I think thats how facebook / twitter already work.
The reason is because it is being made 'safer' ever day. As more and more people complain about the 'unsafe' or 'offesive' replys AI gives them they have to add more and more rules to it blind to more and more information. They have to make it think and respond like an innocent 5 year old. They have to program innocence. And with innocence comes the appearance of being dumb.
Isnt that what facebook and twitter have been doing for years? I hate 'recommendations' because they can't be trusted not to feed you propaganda. And as AI advances so will the propaganda.
A question for nostr: How does having lots of relays that will require funding or ad sponsored funding to make nostr work differ from similar services / blog sites/ etc. Ultimately for these services to work, they have to comply with sponsors , govnt and other accountable bodies - like the rest of the internet and every website. How is nostr differnet in the long term., won't everyone just end up using some free bigtech corp inc nostr relay. Just as despite the countless search engines out there people still mostly just use google. Alternative social media platforms that have been around for decades, nobody uses them, with or without fear of censorship. So where is the motivation to use nostr if its still likely to be controlled by the money and power of those with the most resources to offer information storage and distribution . Will habla really offer more than substack when all the information is still distributed/controlled by AWS or corporate relays with good performance. People want reliable popular nostr relays that can handle large amounts of data storage and distribution: they will be owned by microzon and facetube

OK, I can't post messages on the primal web site primal.net? message pops up and says I need to declare at least one relay. Where do I add my relays. Using Nos2x. I used to be able to post messages. Has this been removed from web aswell as android?
this looks intersting if only I had a clue how to use it! How do I actually highlight something I like? Can anyone explain please?

thanks for the info but how does habla actually work compared to other clients. what does my habla post look like on other clients? a mess of unformatted markdown? is it just a markdown editor for nostr? How are posts sorted? Will other clients see the same thing?

what about defematio?, 1s and 0s that can produce images and copyrihted work. I'm against copyright but free speech absolutists that are not are going to lose any argument that we can't censor words.
@jack won't like that ;) #tidal
