Today's date is always a reflective day for me. 17 years ago today I got crushed between 2 cars while walking to the curb by a drunk driver in the middle of the day. I had managed to jump at the last second so it "only" broke my leg and severely bruised me pretty badly. Sure, it could have been much worse, but it definitely changed the trajectory of my life. Mentally it depressed me for a while and as an avid long distance runner back then I can never achieve that level again as I always have leg pains now. So when you hear doctors say "they'll make a full recovery", know that phrase is very subjective and on their terms, not the patient's. I try to be reflective and just be thankful that I'm still here, eventually had a son, and just watched him hit his 5th birthday. Life can change in a blink of an eye so enjoy what you have. And seriously, don't be an asshole and drive after you've been drinking.
