Just had a very simple exchange with my plumber about #Bitcoin that seemed to resonate with him…

He asked what made it valuable and why would it go up in price.

I said, if you could know that the set of rules for the economy were perfectly fair, where everyone had to put in value to get it out and nobody could cheat, would that be worth something to you?

Him: hell yeah.

Me: well we clearly don’t have that when someone can print trillions of dollars and just consume a horrific amount of capital without doing anything at all, right? Causing the price of everything to double, just like the PVC price we were just talking about.

So imagine you could just know, that whatever someone else did to get those bitcoin, you could *know* beyond any doubt, that they didn’t cheat the money. That they couldn’t print them out of thin air. They had to work within the rules. Would that be valuable?

Him: Yeah. So there’s a certain amount or something?

Me: Yes, 21 million forever. There will never be any more.

Him: So if inflation keeps happening Bitcoin will go up?

Me: Well it’s far more perfectly scarce than PVC pipe and housing and what has happened to the price of those things?

We got distracted with a leak issue after that, but he seemed to really follow this line of thinking.

There are people who talk seriously about the US military backing the dollar, when they can’t even keep the Red Sea open against Houthis and their drones for the better part of a year now.

Literally half of their mandate is to keep global shipping lanes open, and they don’t know what to do about this. Sure, they could nuke half the world, but they can’t actually perform pinpoint military control at distance anymore.

Not only is their technology increasingly offsides from what exists out there, but morally they’ve lost the plot as well, and so nobody gives a shit at home either.

We find ourselves meming the situation in social media as they lack answers.

Sometimes I run into a tech guy on Twitter, who talks about how cypherpunk he is.

I’m just a financial analyst and investor, so that’s cool to hear. The more cypherpunks, the better. I like to fund cypherpunks.

But then I look around, and he’s not active on Nostr for over a year. He’s only active on centralized social media.

So then I am confused at how supposedly cypherpunk he is. Is he really that reliant on centralized media? Often, it turns out yes. If not, what other cryptographic proof does he have for his work?

As Nostr increasingly gains network adoption, it becomes weirder when I analyze why someone who is techie is highly active on Twitter but not at all on Nostr.

If I'm overly confident about Bitcoin being fine, it's only because I've seen messages about how "we need to fix Bitcoin right now or it's gonna die" about 12,000 times before, and they were every one of them complete nonsense.

This is why the rule enforcers are the true evil. They are just “following orders” to destroy the rule of law, overthrow a country in defense of explicit fraud, and enslave a people… because “those are our orders.”

i read a lot of monero here atm, here's my little story: sold 10 btc two days ago, had to go through a kyc hell (as the non-kyc market is dead/never worked for bigger amounts) ... bitcoin has become part of the surveillance state, sad but true
