I'm Bolivian-American. Bolivia is a place that needs Bitcoin now more than ever. I just got back from visiting my family and the country is on the verge of an economic crisis as it faces shortages of hard currency and fuel, high inflation and many other things. The current and ex-president are fighting for control of the leading political party, the leftist Movement for Socialism (Movimiento al Socialismo, "MAS") while people are left trying to protect the fruits of their time and energy.
I’m still early in my Bitcoin journey, learning from those ahead of me. The self custody part of this will be interesting to see and likely be missed. No time or drive to really learn the importance of self custody if a bank is holding it for them and allowing them to sleep well at night. Shitcoining should hopefully be a quick lesson. Sound money would definitely make the big studios think twice about a film they are deciding to spend several millions of dollars/sats on. Then again, they spend the money on the corporate films for a reason. I’m not certain it would give the film makers who are still prioritizing the artistic pursuit / good storytelling a better chance at cutting through the noise, but maybe their would be less noise for their art to be able to be discovered 🤷♂️
Separate thought - an indie film maker on a Bitcoin standard would be able to grow their budgets over time to eventually compete with corporate films, forcing studios to pay attention, but at a certain point wouldn’t need the studios. Power to the film maker and the integrity of the stories they want to tell without the overlords putting any constraints on it.
