Bitnob having quite a day. Thoughts and prayers. 🙏
NGL, would rather be there than here, even though the beer is pretty good here.
My take on this so called Bitcoin conference...
- Important and interesting things happen on the secondary stage, the open source stage. The main stage is full of bullshit propaganda and people that have no idea what is Bitcoin and why they are there.
- Bringing politicians and especially presidential candidates on the stage is a BIG mistake. You practically make their political game. These people are NOT there to help you, are there to GET THE POWER over you. You are fooled if you believe that politicians care about you and your bitcoins. Especially RFK, he was put in that presidential race EXACTLY to fool you, to give you false hope, to move your attention from more important things. He will never win any elections, no matter what you will think. He was pushed and trained "to be with bitcoiners" so later can be demolished in the campaign, is just a puppet. The whole political game is rigged and people still do not realize that.
- Bitcoiners don't need any "right" to run their nodes. THEY JUST RUN THEM! Honeybadger doesn't care about any cheap political promise. I don't need anybody to give me any "right" to use Bitcoin. I just use it and I don't give a shit about any politician. Is not their damn business what am I doing with my own money.
- STOP following false idols and figures! Stop giving them a stage where they can manipulate the weak minds with false political speeches.
Here I also explained how I would like to see these conferences: https://stacker.news/items/180224
I will repeat this over and over until more people will understand it:
Bitcoin adoption will happen only when people will learn to be sovereign individuals, not with politicians "help" and speeches.

Good point. Linux never has conquered the desktop (unless you count WSL), yet more people use it every day than anyone ever imagined.
Hesiod sez, stack sats:
If to a little you a little more
Should add and do this often, with great speed
It will expand.

Is it as straightforward as placing a bet? No. But there are still many more/better ways to do it than, say, going long or short the outcome of an election. Prediction markets shine in contexts like elections because there aren't other good skin-in-the-game metrics. But OSS has things like developer activity, user adoption, $ donations, etc.
Linux didn't have a chance of working. Linus told us so right in his first post.
Bitcoin didn't have a chance in hell of working.
Both were pretty damn cool, though.
Selah.
Good. Along with Gmail, they've historically been one one of the biggest sources of spam to my servers! Perfect example of "too big to fail" in action, because any small company that acted like those two would have been on every block list so fast…
Not sure that formalizing the market would add much to what we already have. Prediction markets are useful for things where its not already possible to "put your money where your mouth is". But we already have that in OSS via developers investing their time, users choosing which software to run, etc.
