Yesterday morning the snow started at 7:30 and was done by 10am. It was quite the cell that came through and ramped up to a really heavy squall at the end. It gave me enough snow on the farm that I could run the snowblower around before this arctic blast set in. The sun came out mid day but did nothing to warm the air, though it was rather nice to see the glowing orb again.
The greenhouse is managing the temps so far and was above freezing all day. The ambient though fell fast as the day wore on and by the evening was well under 20F. This morning it is 0F but the greenhouse is sitting at 26F, which I consider a win.
The wind chills today will be biting and down to the -15F to -20F range and I plan to be out and about the farm in it today. Extreme conditions can be rather fun to experience, especially when they happen irregularly.

I always wanted a Roor, just cool designs and some super strong pieces. Anymore I have to have water for smoking. I've never been a fan of joints, such a waste of bud, but have my glass hand pieces I've made that I use for travel. So my home unti see a LOT of daily use.
I feel you! I only smoke out of my glass straight water pipe I made and the water amount is so little I HAVE to change it out every day, but cleaning the tube.... Opfh. I scraped out a 1/4 cup of shit from it the other day. It draws SO much nicer now.
Being gaslit? It's all a means of control by enforcing insanity like that.

Last gasp of the storm this morning sat over us for a while before it blew off to the east. We even got a heavy snowfall weather alert for it. Seriously dumped for a couple hours which gave me enough to get the snowblower out and clear things before the -15F lows and down to -30F windchills coming. Saturday morning we have a 1 mile run at the Deer Park Winterfest and it is to be -15F. At least it won't be snowing and will just be biting cold. The heat lamps, tank heaters, and heat tapes are on everywhere so here's hoping they are able to handle the lows.

"Active Flow Control" (AFC) looks to remove the standard actuating flight control surfaces on aircraft and instead use directed air discharges to control the aircraft. Similar to how the Dragon capsule uses gas discharges for orientation only this will be done within the atmosphere at normal flight altitudes. This could have wide implications for the future of aircraft design.

My grain run yesterday morning was a quick trip to town and back as it tried to snow. Once the sun was up it snowed in short but intense bands until mid morning. I got the grain emptied and the birds and sheep were super happy for it. I think I have them ready for the arctic blast that hits this afternoon.
I took a walk down to the creek tunnel and stopped to sit with the amazing greenery of the moss on our basalt boulder. Any time of year I can come down here if I need to be around green. When the #farm has been white coated in snow for weeks to months and the only green I see is the evergreen trees above me, this boulder is wonderful to visit to get the full blast of live greenery right in the face. Plus I can run my hands through it even in lightly sub freezing temps as it tends to freeze at a lower temp.
Today the temp will go from 25F now to -5F this evening with -9F tomorrow morning. Fun stuff!

It saved me, truly. I was wasting so much hay using regular tarps or even 6 mil roll plastic to cover but once I got these I haven't lost a single bale. I have had no place to build a cover so have had to make due with pallets and covers as well.

That was quite the storm that came through. Yesterday morning we were left with nearly 4" of now rained on snow before the winds and temperatures increased which dumped all the snow from the trees. The sunshine was nice for the morning though even with the winds.
I had to repair the gate attachment point to the opener as it had wallowed and worked itself loose. The carriage bolts are SUPER solid now and won't hurt the gate pipe like the u-bolt had.
I made a batch of tortillas while the Kraken game was on and these came out a good bit softer when cooled thanks to the added honey. Without the honey they soften quickly in the microwave but with the honey they stay softer without heating. I eat them plain as a snack at anytime of day or coat with whatever sounds good at the time.

I have found the best cover for round bales is pallet covers. I slide one over each bale then a tarp over the top and they last over a year with no problems. I've been reusing the covers for a few years already and they have lasted just fine. Got a roll of 30 from Amazon for like $120 but that was cheap to save the bales.

My greenhouse is lit up with the heat lamp. I put the timer on it so it actually comes on at night even though tonight it is really warm. We are looking at -8F in about 80 hours so this will hopefully build a base heat that will survive the freeze. At least I have no expectations from this endeavour and am looking more to learn and if I manage to grow something then great.

What a mess of a day it was yesterday as the storm hit. The snow started nice and light but got heavier as the day went on. It gave me a chance to get more of the farm prepped for it and the sheep needed their new bale rolled into the pen. I'm really happy to have moved the bales closer to the pen as it makes it far easier to deal with them.
The oil heater managed to keep the #greenhouse above freezing with the 19F temps overnight so I have a glimmer of hope it may handle the subzero temps coming. I think my thermo-switch is dead for the heat lamp so I will have to put it on a timer to give the kick of extra heat for later in the week.
3+" of snow overnight and then it spent the last hour raining heavily atop it. Today is wet, sloppy, and really windy.

Wow, DOT is running 3 snow plows up the highway after the 4inches of snow overnight that is now getting rained on. Normally we get one but this was the trailer plow followed by normal ones. They're serious about clearing the highway today I guess.
