Well that's a pile of shit. Anyone have a portable Starlink?

In a nice twist we had some small storms roll through yesterday morning which gave me lower temps to work in, but a lot higher humidity. Mid day I got started digging the potatoes in the pole garden and got a just shy of 20 pound haul.
My buddy stopped by in the afternoon and after talking about his new Viking War Horn I went and found one of the cow horns I have and cut it to make my own horn. I sound like a dying whale and need some practice to get a clear sound, but the thing echoes in our valley a bit as is. I just need to find the other horn so I can have a pair.

Our hot day yesterday ended up 105F and was rather awful when it peaked. I got harvests done in the morning before we headed to Flight 509 fun center in the valley for the mid day. The boys had a blast and we did laser tag a couple of times.
The boys want to play Duck Hunt so I drug out the old CRT tv and will be seeing if it works today since the NES gun won't work on LCD or LED tvs.
First batch of carrots got pulled to thin the spots out. 1.5 pounds of thinner carrots but they are some of the longer I have ever grown.

Seeing this come back in my feed I never answered parts.
The amount of grain depends on how large the brew that is made. Some breweries have large capacities while others are a lot smaller. I can get up to 8 full barrels on a high abv brew but the normal is 3 to 4 barrels for a full run.
It's mostly barley but I get variuos other grains in depending on the brew that is made.
The water doesn't hurt at all. The grain is anaerobic so the extra water doesn't hurt. It can get a bit pungent but the birds and animals all pick out what they will eat and leave the rest to grind into the soil.

The sunflowers all face east in the morning and the bees are on them right away with it so warm. I saw this one getting covered in pollen as it shimmied around the flower.
Finally have a new batch in the #Freezedryer and it is a full load of peas. I have to make sure to keep it running now that the farm is producing so much. I plan on putting many pounds of potatoes through it in numerous forms.

After getting work done in the morning and mid day yesterday the boys and I spent some time in the creek. I worked on cleaning up the brush while they played in the sand and the dog splash/bite the water. Thankfully the year round source for the creek is a spring about half a mile up stream that gives a continuous flow. I know where I will be the next days while the temps are well over 100F.

It's only the third row I have dug amounting to 116 feet total so far and I have Over 200 pounds of the Red Nordland already with plenty more spots to dig.
The coop door opener failed, more so the motor driver failed and not hte Arduino, so I have new ones coming today and will get it installed so we are not back to manual opening and closing.
Managed well over 40 bald faced hornet kills and I hope to get a bunch more today...

While I won't argue the sentiment I'll point out that juice is getting flown to a very remote part of northern Canada where everything costs way more.
Muggy Morning #Nostr
The clouds were nice yesterday and helped keep it cooler while I harvested all day long out of hte direct sunllight. Thanks to the new heavy duty pitch fork I got mid day I was able to get the garlic all dug and hung in the shed. They came out a good bit better than I was expecting. The potato-palooza continued with 70 more pounds from the one row which gave me 2+lbs per foot so far and I still have 10-12 feet to dig today. The pitchfork did wonders!

SO. MANY. POTATOES. And that is only the second row I dug yesterday morning. I got the same from both rows which is nice to have consistency, 1.75 lbs per foot. The heat of the days makes drying them after washing nice and fast and they are mostly dry by the time I am ready to shift them. Harvested the first row of garlic, the Inchelium variety which I will hang in the shed today then harvest the other 2 rows.
This swallowtail butterfly was attacking the sunflowers in the pole garden while I poked around for yellow potatoes. It let me get pretty close before it would flit off and then come back to land on a flower. The bees were also massing the flowers but seemed to keep away from the swallowtail.

I like Chioggia beets for the same, they are sweet and are red and white striped inside and minus the dirt flavor.

Yesterday my day began pulling rutabaga and beets before moving on to the first row of Red Nordland potatoes. Over the day I managed to get the 34 foot row dug and ended up with a total of 60 pounds which equates to 1.75 pounds per foot of row. If that rate holds over all 742 spots that would give me 1300 pounds...

Found myself another rubber boa today at the beginning of the potato row I dug. Third one in a couple weeks makes me quite happy, the more the merrier and less pests I will have in the garden. I put it in the bean row under the plastic.
