I like this bit...

"Unserious and unworthy people in positions of authority got us to this near disaster,” he said. “Merit and execution must be the only deciding factors in hiring and leadership, not the social engineering priority of the day. Sadly nothing in Washington reflects that any longer.”

Greetings #nostr

Had a grain run first thing yesterday morning which the animals were super stoked on though it was still pretty warm from the brewing process. I was sweating like mad at 6am loading and unloading it all. Worked in the greenhouse and got a number of things picked before the heat of the day hit. Watched PDC in the morning, Euros mid day, then the Copa in the evening.

Our creek has a nice stock of crawdads and when I went down to the tunnel I was able to grab this one out of the water. Such big claws for such a small body. I set it back after a few pics and it just sat still in the water and watched me until I left.

Hola #Nostr

After harvesting 20 pounds of potatoes yesterday morning I went to the boys' VBS Finale in town then in the afternoon went north to fly. The winds were a bit funky and would ratchet up to 20+ mph and after enough parawaiting I was the first one to launch and ended up with the longest flight of everyone for the day and my second longest flight yet. It was really hot and I actually chose to land instead of sinking out and being forced to land.

Yeah the bugs have beat up my Asian cabbage pretty bad since it is a looser leaf, these round heads are surviving a lot better. Now I know.

Happy weekend

More cabbage was reaedy yesterday and I got 15 of them in the cooler. I really need to do something with it all sooner than later. The greenhouse is growing in nicely and the other half of the cucumbers are about to the lines now. The hen got kicked out of the brooder hut and chicks mended, the alpaca got a good watering, I trimmed more trees, and then did some casting practice in the driveway where I caught our cat-fish.

God morgen

It was a day of harvests yesterday, small but still harvests. First was the peas, then cucumbers, tomatoes, then the first potatoes came out of the ground from the upper garden. This handful represents the first drops of the wall of spuds that will be flooding me over the next months. At least I am not having to dig them daily.

We got 5 more chicks hatched which I tossed in with the hen in the brooder. I can't have 2 hens and chicks together otherwise it will be a war in such close quarters, so I just gave the one hen the chicks. That makes 25 chicks hatched in the last month or so...

The sun rises once again.

Of course on the hottest day yesterday we had more chicks hatch. It was a serious shuffle to get the teens to the bigger hut then the chicks and hen to the brooder. I will have another up to 6 chicks today to dump in with them from the nest box next door.

Made modifications to my kayak and am getting it better setup or fishing. Picked up a lot of fly fishing gear and now have some killer books on fly tying and a slew of nice flies. The boys want to go out so maybe tomorrow morning we will head up to the lake.

HELL YEAH COLUMBIA!!!! #COPA24 Suck it Uraguay!

I'm super curious about this stuff, I'm tired of the topicalsteroids. What's em1?

Feeling HOT HOT HOT!

With the 90 more potatoes planted yesterday morning it puts me at 742 planted this year which should likely give me close to a ton when all is said and done. 7 more pounds of peas came out of hte main garden and I still have another row to pick today. The tree trimming continues as I work to limit fire danger as we get to the heat of the summer.

Going to pickup some fishing gear this morning and I am super stoked on the stack of books about fly tying and flies for our area along with the reels that look just like mine.

I despise humidity. I grew up in the central Sierras and it was a super dry heat but it was manageable. I was in San Antonio and the red flag days where it was 95F and 90% humidity was the most awful thing to live through. I have no idea how the south manages.

Yesterday morning I got 25 pounds of cabbage harvested and in the cooler. The Asian cabbage is getting trashed but at least the standard round cabbage are doing better. Midday I was walking back to the house from getting the mail when I found this Sphinx Moth on the deck. Super cool, looked it up and appears to be the Cerisy's Sphinx Moth.

Hiked up the hill and found a cat and rodent skull beneath the bald eagle's nest. Back by the house I picked a big handful of some of the ripe raspberries, then trimmed a bunch of the trees by the creek. Trying to beat the heat while still accomplishing something is seeming to be a task of its own.

The heat is here.

Work is getting done earlier in the day now that it is in triple digits. Only supposed to last through Wednesday then it will drop back into the 90s. The cauliflower is starting to grow heads and they are looking really nice so far. Got 144 potatoes planted and still have another 90 spots to fill today for late potatoes. I found a robin sitting on eggs in its nest down by the creek and it looks like they have used the nest multiple times given the nearly foot tall it is. We have a few pairs of them around the farm but I think they are the closest and likely the ones I am always seeing and hearing.

I just plugged in your initial question then changed the 75% to 95%. I have no clue on validity of the info but this is for 95%.

To determine the sample size needed to confirm at least 50% of the heifers are pregnant with a 95% confidence level, you can use the formula for calculating sample size for proportions in a finite population:

n = [Z^2 * P(1-P) * N] / [(N-1) * MOE^2 + Z^2 * P(1-P)]

where:

n = sample size

Z = Z-score corresponding to the desired confidence level (for 95% confidence level, Z ≈ 1.96)

P = estimated proportion (0.5 for 50%)

N = population size (25 heifers)

MOE = margin of error (let's use 0.05)

Plugging in the values:

n = [(1.96)^2 * 0.5 * (1-0.5) * 25] / [(25-1) * 0.05^2 + (1.96)^2 * 0.5 * (1-0.5)]

n = 3.8416 * 0.5 * 0.5 * 25 / (24 * 0.0025 + 3.8416 * 0.5 * 0.5)

n = 2.401 * 25 / (0.06 + 2.401)

n = 60.025 / 0.060025

n ≈ 24.996

Therefore, you would need to initially test at least 25 heifers to confirm with 95% confidence that at least 50% of the 25 heifers are pregnant. Since you cannot test a fraction of a heifer, rounding up to the nearest whole number means you should test at least 25 heifers.
