Yes, but in the current system, unless you're wealthy, you're covered by insurance. And then again, if you're wealthy enough not to be covered, you're probably sophisticated enough for self-custody already, or can afford to pay people to be sophisticated for you.
It's very simple: if my mom's bank "loses" her money, she gets it back. If she loses the keys to her BTC, she doesn't. And that applies to absolutely everybody in my immediate circle. I literally know no one around me who has more than €100k cash in a bank account.

I was in Indonesia in January, had been a few years, and it's one of those places where on one hand people in the West, especially the US, can't even fathom how ubiquitous mobile tech is (inserting your chip card to pay is something even grandmas would laugh at).
Pair that with a State with a very obvious authoritarian instinct but limited by the country's economic, social and material conditions in its desire to control and direct. In many aspects, a lot of these developing countries are "lucky" in that sense. The State wants to be like 1950-current Europe, with its "soft" but relentless "social authoritarianism", but just can't afford it.
Now all these bits of tech will enable it to skip the whole "development" (social, institutional, political) process, and go straight to the totalitarian phase. Just like they skipped phone lines and went mobile directly.
The dystopia in places like Indonesia will be fuckin horrible.

Nuance to that: it's difficult to sell the idea that you copy some specific arrangement of information that I originally came up with, while saying that you are the one who actually came up with it, without incurring in a lie. I.e., fraud.

I swear the first time I was ambushed into trying it while visiting our local Japanese school, I literally threw it up through my nose.
After moving to Tokyo and having a hardcore Japanese room-mate who had it everyday for breakfast (with white rice and kimchi), I took to it and now I always have some. I love it with a raw quail egg and kimchi.
Forgot the pic. Needless to say, I'm keeping a lid on the pot all along to prevent evaporation while cooking. 
This is how it's going sfter adding the mix.
Cultural notes: originally this dish was done using an old hen that had stopped being "useful", i.e., laying eggs. So she would be used for food.
Everything was used, originally -- in fact the two eggs yolks for the mix are the ones that you would find inside the hen. That's why it's yolks and not full eggs including the whites. Most likely the liver, at least, would be used for the mix too (it's common still today to use liver in these recipes, at least in Catalonia). Also, the bones and less useful parts would be used for the broth. So a classical zero-waste recipe.
In any case old hen is much tastier than chicken, but it's not easy to come by, so chicken it is. And the yolks I took from regular eggs of course, as in the picture before (and I eat the whites just with some salt and olive oil). The broth in this case is a mix of some I had left from something else, which I topped up with store broth. It is what it is!
Then the rest is just a basic stew. Add the chicken to the onions. Add water or broth (obviously broth is tastier). Add salt and black or white pepper (absolutely necessary). Braise until tender. You can choose when to add the dry mix, but I cook the chicken for at least 30 minutes at the lowest heat possible, then add the mix and keep braising it for a while longer, say 30 more minutes. It's probably too much but if the heat is low enough you'll be fine and the meat will melt from the bone, which is the whole point. Of course along the whole process you have to regulate the amount of liquid. The final sauce should not be too thick, or so runny thag you can sctually separate the ingredients. In any case, it's one of those dishes that tastes much better if you leave it to settle for several hours or even overnight. Will post pics when ready to serve.
