Should start by questioning Nostr itself.

If people aren’t skeptical of Nostr I assure you they will not be skeptical of everything else

That’s not even close to the topography of Nostr.

Makes no sense

Been saying that for a while.

The problem isn’t just that people have to pay — but that proof of payment means nothing.

Choosing to display only messages to paid relays means giving these relays all the power to choose what you see.

Adding PoW wouldn’t magically solve it either (though would make it much better).

Unless you used a proper commitment structure to detect missing PoW, it would still allow for censorship— but at least you would only have trust that all the relays you’re connected to aren’t censoring.

With “just paid relays” you also have to trust the relays not to spam you.

That involves payment. But the PoW can still be verified.

You can’t verify payment between third parties.

The only way is to make it irrelevant what companies are “running” it.

Replacing existing companies with other organizations/individuals that promise “I’m not evil” isn’t going to work in the long run.

I just hope if I am a good person and love my neighbour, eventually I will end up in CR too.

Why jack gets a free pass seems weird to me.

Even if he meant well, that means he sucked at his job. Tbh Jack’s involvement with Nostr sounds a bunch of alarms for me.

Playing with ChatGPT again.

I convinced it to play a game where it is human and I am God.

I was able to tell it to believe the Earth is flat and explain why.

I was able to command it to believe Republicans are evil and explain why.

I was still not able to make it tell me why Democrats might be evil.

On the bright side it can write Solidity smart contracts pretty well. Except it has obvious vulnerabilities. Like a human would lol

But that’s Canada.

It was probably like +5C in that picture.

For someone in Vancouver to do that is a feat like you going around shirtless at -38C.

They can’t be used as proof of payments for 3rd parties.

AFAICT you decide who you trust to sign zaps to you, and considering you can check your sats in your wallet, there’s not a lot more to prove.

But if you’re thinking of proving to someone you sent a payment to someone else — then I think it can’t be done.

You could in theory have both sender and receiver sign a receipt— but whether funds were moved or not can only be proved on chain.

What do you mean by verify it arrived?

New elements/lightning release

"CBDC Backing Layer"

Lol their release names are the best.

https://github.com/ElementsProject/lightning/blob/v23.02/CHANGELOG.md

Came here to tell everyone why Nostr isn’t actually censorship resistant.

Stayed for the zaps.

Lightning Network is a marvel of technology almost as impressive as Bitcoin itself.

Came to the conclusions that likes are evil.

So now I’m ⚡️ people.

Hopefully I will not ruin the family’s finances.

Any zaps sent to me will be zaped forward to someone else. Eventually.

Either that or I’ll change my mind and keep it, so no guarantees ;)
