Hmm. From 2015.

Yet another picture I don't remember.

I was wondering why we have a satellite so far away (that isn't the JWST). This page says

https://www.nesdis.noaa.gov/current-satellite-missions/currently-flying/dscovr-deep-space-climate-observatory

that DSCOVR is at L1 to check for solar wind disturbances & provide early warning. The EPIC sensor is a secondary payload - providing earth images from a stable location to compare with other satellites.

AI model extraction - attacks only get better with time

Describing methods used to extract secrets from an AI model. Time to break reduced from 2^256 search space to a half hour on a 256 core computer.

Today in Oklahoma City. Apparently everyone was in a tournament today. The first two courses were busy with tournaments. I played at Choctaw Creek golf course for about $20 since they were repairing the greens.

The two pictures show what the greens looked like. Either a temporary green in the fairway with a large hole or the regular green in poor condition.

The rest of the course was in good condition so I still had a good time.

I drove through Mississippi a couple days ago - somehow I missed that kind of entertainment. What I saw a LOT was a random SUV on the side or median doing speed checks. (might have been AL and not MS though)

I also remember the small towns south of Dallas that used to do similar stuff on I-35. Made like 80% of the town revenue on speeding tickets. Lasted until TX passed a law preventing that kind of income.

Today’s golf was at Clear Creek Golf Club near Vicksburg MS. Similar to where I was at yesterday with a couple differences on the back 9.

First picture shows the tunnel to the back nine. Stay in the middle to avoid damage to your cart.

The second picture shows where you go into the dense woods for a couple holes. Must drive straight or you will lose your ball.

Woke up to a steady rain but was able to drive out of it. Played golf at the Atkins Golf Course in Urbana IL. A typical city course run by the University of Illinois.

Open, a few trees, and some water. Pretty easy to avoid the water.

MDM outrage about a flamethrower stunt by a Missouri governor candidate

He sure is getting some free publicity from that stunt.

Odd that I can't find my copy. I remember it because a professor at college would read the version in French and translate it on the fly. His translation was just a bit different than the English version we had brought at the bookstore.

Not likely in or near San Mateo. He said more than once he is near Oakland and Berkeley. Plus he has a view of the mud flats.

A quick search for John C Dvorak House brings up an address in Albany CA - which is near the bay & just north of Berkeley.

Umm. None of those Suspicious Activity Reports count?

Plus plenty of other things are suspicious.

Maybe there is more evidence against Pinocchio Joe than what this writer wants to admit.

Water as a constraint on building more affordable housing

https://coloradosun.com/2023/09/12/buena-vista-development-housing-water-limits/

In this case the town of Buena Vista CO is looking at solutions to build new homes within the constraints they have on the existing water rights.

Conservation and fixing leaks will extend the "we are out" date so they are looking at a variety of methods to get more water approved for municipal use.

NIMBY about geothermal energy

https://coloradosun.com/2023/09/03/geothermal-plant-chaffee-county-opposition/

Rural areas in Colorado could have some geothermal production. BUT you need

- power transmission lines

- a faciliity

- no risk of well water pollution

and other things the locals don't want.

I wonder when the state will do something like the wolf reintroduction vote & just override the rural parts of the state.

The Manhattan Contrarian has followed some of the money spent on homeless in San Francisco

https://www.manhattancontrarian.com/blog/2023-9-2-the-whole-idea-behind-homeless-advocacy-is-to-not-solve-the-problem

Some huge numbers like

- 7800 homeless and 9000 previously homeless

- $672M spent on Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH)

- Or over $3K / month per person in the two categories

This is money not given to the homeless but to "support" them.

This problem is not designed to be solved ... to treat the problem, not solve it. (according to Willie Brown)

It is complicated...

https://apnews.com/article/desantis-abortion-story-survivor-florida-gop-debate-penny-9b2f9ac73710ca9e1ae78c13d4694670

The MDM just had to go back to this debate answer from DeSantis and smear him (and the people who told him the story).

Here is the quote

“I know a lady in Florida named Penny,” he said. “She survived multiple abortion attempts. She was left discarded in a pan. Fortunately, her grandmother saved her and brought her to a different hospital.”

They try to argue it can't be verified so it isn't relevant to the abortion battle. SMH.

I assume that center section with hanging chains is for entry and exit.

Not sure what this weak ass framework is supposed to do. Any tank shell will pass through as if it isn't there. Heck, a sabot round can pass through an APC without detonating as well.

I saw the note about lancet drones - if the drone really has a "high explosive" warhead - it also would not be affected.
