Believe that they are open-sourcing the client but cannot confirm. It is built on open source tools, like Identity Overlay Network (ION), Bitcoin and Lightning, though.

The creator account isn’t necessary unless you want to create a community (these are generally for musicians, artists, themes etc). It’s free for general users.

It also has native lightning wallets built in.

I think of it as being more of a tool for people to get paid by their followers and for interest groups / communities.

Definitely worth checking out.

I just went through all 80+ applications for Round 2 of Geyser Grants.

In case you don’t know, we started Geyser Grants as a way to support people contributing to Bitcoin culture.

We were bootstrapped by an anonymous Bitcoiner to run 3 rounds grants to see if we could encourage the Bitcoin community and other anonymous Bitcoiners & Bitcoin companies to contribute to funding a community curated list of bitcoin projects.

We focus not just on builders, but also creators and educators!

We have lots of great initiatives to fund bitcoin development and open source including Brink Bitcoin, Open Sats, HRF Bitcoin Dev Fund, chain code, btrust, Bitmex developer grants, okcoin developer grants, spiral bitcoin grants and more 🔥🔥🔥

However, artists, translators, podcasters, comedians, designers, musicians and educators also need support.

Artists contribute to bitcoin culture and educators are fighting in the trenches against shitcoin disinformation, doing Satoshi’s work across the globe.

It’s our goal to unlock dormant pools of BTC from whales who are willing to pay their Bitcoin tithing to support high impact bitcoin evangelism and bitcoin culture projects.

Many early Bitcoiners just don’t have the time or energy to vet all of these projects that need funding - it’s a lot of work!

We built a voluntary advisory board of principled bitcoiner who go through the applicants and vote on a curated list.

We went through 80+ in the summer and just finished going through another 80+ for round 2.

As we continue round after round - we hope to prove to the bitcoin whales out there that we are curating a great list of projects contributing to Bitcoin adoption globally.

The total requested for Round 2 was ~$260K, which is not a lot.

It’s my hope that after a few more rounds, we will be able to fulfill all requests that meet our bar for support.

This is a ground-up community effort done in the spirit of bitcoin, eventually the Geyser team will build something that is community driven where we can optimize bitcoin donations to help boost the highest impact projects spreading bitcoin across the globe.

Proud of the geyser team and Geyser grants board, and very excited to see so many grassroots bitcoin projects across the world 🫂

Excited for 2025 🤙

Great initiative! 🧡

Nice, another bookmark for the arsenal! 💜

Seems like a good approach, but this would require users to run a caching relay.

Although, I suspect it could be offered like ‘Nostr as a Service’.

Yep, it’s the simplicity that enables a multitude of use cases.

Also, Bluesky is great but Nostr has a lot of momentum both from an adoption and development perspective.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

🤙🏻

Yep, looks like the space is finally heating up.

Check out Zion also if you get a chance. uses DIDs like Bluesky but with native lightning ⚡️ integration like Nostr!

No probs, check out Zion also. Similar to Bluesky (using a DID for identity) but has built in lightning ⚡️ support!

At present, I think so.

It really comes down to whether multiple social networks, in addition to Bluesky, end up building on ATP. Otherwise it’s decentralised in name only.

Also think they missed an opportunity by not implementing ⚡️at the outset but this is likely fairly easy to add using Lexicons.
