My late best friend passed from heroin. I would not wish an opiate addiction on anyone. If you know anyone that has gone through that, you know what hell really is.

We have this view of addicts that they are bad people who made bad choices and deserve their addiction. Generally speaking, people become addicted to drugs because they lack something so necessary, they need to numb the absence to compensate. Vietnam veterans who were called baby killers and rejected from society are the prime example of this. Imagine going through war all time be treated like shit when you get back.

I say all this to say, experience DOES speak for itself. And anyone that overcomes addictions is not weak for succumbing, they’re strong for OVERCOMING. These are not bad people. Most of them are so hopeless. So anyone that can pull themselves from those depths is an inspiration to me.
