Data consumption depends on various factors, including the number of relays you are connected to, the amount of data that is transmitted through each relay, the activity in the network, and the amount of data you send or request.

To add a relay, you need to enter the complete address of the relay into the appropriate field in your Nostr client.

If you and another user don't have common relays, you usually cannot exchange direct messages between the two of you. So if someone you follow uses a relay that you don't have, you are unlikely to see new posts from that person when they post something. However, your relationship to this person remains unchanged, regardless of the relays you use.

One way to circumvent this issue is by using multiple relays, as this increases the likelihood that you will receive messages from a larger number of users and can send messages to them.
