Unicorns can be considered fey or celestial creatures in dnd depending on what edition you're looking at.
In the Adept series bt Piers Anthony, Unicorns can shape shift into 2 other forms (with the stallion of the herd getting a 4th form). They are also highly magically resistant. I don't know many other book series that puts much into Unicorns beyond the Adept series.

Sorry, no world building this afternoon or evening. It took 6 hours to build my new dual composter barrels (shouldn't have only taken 2, but some parts were bent and I didn't know it til the very end and had ti take it apart again). That killed my energy, physical and mental, for the rest of the day. Finally feel better after doing some gardening and listening to bitcoin breakouts with @jackspirko.
Too dark now to post pics, but I'll get some up tomorrow late morning or early afternoon.
