Yes we have reduced lots of these. We cook from scratch at home and buy good ingredients. Though they seem to always acquire sweets, crisps etc out and about with friends etc. so it’s probably 70% good and then 30% all over the shop.

Makes sense. A whole other level to start trying to control what the kids do when with their friends at birthdays etc. We are trying to encourage them to make good choices and educating them about what goes into these products. Water over juice product is the easiest and subtlest choice one can make at a kids party.

For users who don’t “need” nostr yet (for its censorship-resistance, etc.), what are some reasons for a user to join this network’s social-media layer? (Paraphrased).

Here’s one… nostr is arguably the only network where you can show up, brand new, no “following” or af spend, and immediately start connecting with real humans about real stuff, and have an actual SOCIAL experience online.

Think about Twitter for a sec. Between the KYC, outrage algorithms, and promoted content, it’s damn near impossible to build a following, never mind a community. Same with the other platforms.

Hop on over to Nostr, drop an #introductions post and our happy #plebchain is at the ready to welcome you, offer technical pointers, and zap you, first thing.

You say hello and strangers literally start asking “hey nice to meet you, can I send you money?”

You show up and people want to be your friend and give you the best money ever discovered 😆

Trigger-happy #zap culture aside, you enter into a thriving social community on day one, where our favorite thing to do is boost your post and help you find other users who share your interests.

One could argue that nostr provides (among other stuff) the ONLY real social media network that a normal person can actually use.

There is no second best.

A great point. I wouldn’t see a lot of the people I follow/ed on Twitter as they prob don’t have blue checks and the algo wouldn’t surface them either.

I have been doing a lot of reading and have certainly increased my consumption of meat. The challenge I have with young children is not making food too extreme and fadie. It’s hard enough with a you daughter who is not a great eater, so going full on carnivore comes with some perceived risked that I’m uncertain about. Ideally I would try out carnivore for 3-6months and then have a view with experience but we try and eat as a family and I’m worried if I cut out everything it might give the wrong message to the kids. Not sure what to do tbh.

Have you read around ultra processed foods? Avoiding those seem to have a lot of benefits. Just finished reading ‘ultra processed people’. The similarities to fake food and fake money were not lost (although the book only tackles the food side).

I like this. I was hoping to save my Twitter exit for when Musk installs Doge or some such, my contribution to next month’s report showing numbers down. But…this is a good challenge to such an approach.

Sadly, some of my older family members are extremely NPC. After a lifetime of MSM brainwashing and the total destruction of thought from it, all they can really do when faced with difficult realities is exclamation, “That’s a conspiracy theory!” And shove their head in the sand, never to look at it again.

I use to think I was obligated to have them ‘get it’ but I now realize they’ll never get it, and that’s ok. I’ve met great people throughout my life who do get it and wanna rap deep with me about these topics. They really value getting to share in those conversations, and want to join the party to be a playable character in the world.

Not everyone is capable of being a playable character, and that doesn’t make them bad or wrong; it just limits what is possible with them. I now focus on just keeping things with them as ‘normal’ as I can and considering that allows for things be stable and easy for everyone else in the family and that works well.
