I apply that same logic to self custody. Just because it is (slightly) harder then the alternative, it doesn't mean we should shy away from it.
Ultimately, self custody is the best choice for most people.

Personally I don't think it is a failure. It is either a step or stepping stone in the right direction. Is it an answer to scaling solutions? That is unknown at this time. But it is a usable option at the moment when fees are high.
