I've been wondering for a while now where people enable the recommends section in their profile? ( It's where you can recommend noster apps and services in your profile ) Is this a Damus feature? I have not seen anything on the web or android Nostr to enable it

Spent time with a bunch of good Bitcoiner friends. Most of them don't use nostr. All of them urged to explain why they don't without being asked to do so. An indication of a bad conscience, I guess that's good for nostr but it doesn't really matter. Anyway, what's their reason? They haven't seen nostr used for much more than "just social media".

Obviously, they're retarded and wrong and I love them. But that doesn't matter either. They don't know that the most exciting use cases of nostr are beyond a Twitter clone and it seems that that's what would make them reconsider it, but I don't believe them really. I think they don't care and made up a bunch of nonsense excuses because they feel the social pressure from their Bitcoiner peers.

I'm kind of curious why they have/use Bitcoin. Is it just about getting rich? If they're not there for the freedom, sovereignty and to destroy centralized control, maybe they don't care about those principles in their daily life, speech or access to apps?

Not trying to be judgmental, just interested in where they are coming from.

If I was an all-powerful psychopath, I would keep most of the world's people, group A, as illiterate and poor as possible, and extract their natural resources using their cheap labor.

To the extent other people, group B, would benefit from this or from technologies they created, I would gradually tax them to death and steal their savings with inflation, while I in parallel would use their schools to dumb them down as much as possible.

Keeping everyone dumb and docile would be necessary to avoid any counterplay against me.

And if my income from group B started falling because of a collapse in productivity or some destructive event, I would bankrupt them, flood their country with people from group A, and extract group B's natural resources using everyone's cheap labor.

While this went on, I would allow some of the people in group A to develop skills and increase their productivity, while I gradually taxed them to death and stole their savings with inflation.

I would rinse and repeat until the NPCs realized that I was playing with them, and developed strategies to fight back against me.

I would worry about this, because I would know that almost every strategy to fight against me would be a winning strategy for them.

In fact, it would probably be more than enough enough that a small group of NPCs turned into active players.

By f***ing around and trying they would soon find out what worked and not.

And that would be the end of it for me.

An excellent plan that will make you and your offspring rich and powerful beyond your wildest dreams. It will probably continue for a few generations until, Forth Turning style, your s#!thead offspring blow up the whole scheme because they're weak and entitled. Thoughts?

Recommend umbrel?

Start9, MyNode, Umbrel, Raspblitz all work well as simple nodes. Just some minor diffences in how they're setup.

Just check out the feature sets first to see if there is anything else you want on the personal server side. Start9 and Umbrel lean more toward personal server.

How computer savvy are you? What kind of computer will you install it on?

I'll add some personal observations below, but it might be over your head if you're new to node running or computers.

I haven't played with the newest version of Umbrel, but I believe they split the OS and node data up in the new one, similar to what MyNode does. The advantage is that if the OS drive dies or gets screwed up, you just reinstall the os and all the node data is still there.

This is more important when running a node OS on an SD card, which are pretty flaky. (Most basic raspberry Pi setups) I've moved to SSD for both OS and Node data, so no more SD card issues. If you run a Pi, I highly suggest 8GB of ram.

Spam can die right now if every relay did nip-05 only. The Ditto devs may implement this soon

Bot farm admins can easily setup Nip-05 though. So not sure how that will help, unless relay ops are willing to ban a lot of domains or use white lists. Kinda breaking things at that point.

The real problem of useless people making things to annoy/abuse others will never be solved, ever. Bitter people exist. Since we're in the fourth turning, it's expected to just get worse. There's no ad revenue to game, so we'll have to see what incentives there are to being annoying.

I don't know of any major apps or relays filtering using WoT so far. I've only seen the WoT score on Coracle. Do you know of any?

If someone follows multiple relays the filtered posts would likely just get through on other non WoT relays.

My feed has aprx 23 notes in the past hour. that doesnt seem normal at all.

Maybe relay ops or app devs are trying to figure out reply guy options?

Did you do it with a local club?
