Amethyst v0.12.0 is out. This release uses a new way to hit relays in the hopes of being a massive performance improvement from v0.11

Since all the pipes were re-wired in the entire app, please expect some bugs. Also, keep in mind relays are quite inconsistent right now, making it hard to know if the problem is in the app or with the relays (clicking in the relay setup in the top bar gives some clues of which ones are active/sending data).

Installed apk, android says 0.11.5 (had 0.11.7 earlier). Apk release glitch?

No I stopped using it after they shutdown OpenSignal, Fdroid open source client. I can’t give you a reason other than that but something about it trips my Spidy Sense and I don’t trust it.

Fair point. Still gotta use it cuz it took me forever to convince mom/sister to uninstall WhatsApp. At least that for them 💪 what are some other alternatives in your opinion?

Login part of the code is bit of a mess, because Iris used to run on gundb which uses keys of a different EC curve. There's still a lot of the old, unnecessary code. Haven't had time to refactor properly.

I almost leaked my nsec once when I was first starting. Definitely much more careful now. Vanity keys are cool, but not enough to make me want to nuke my followers list.

The best way to build these protections is as they start happening, instead of building for predictions. Which is why it’s good if Nostr doesn’t explode with new users just yet.

Yeah, people are exploring how to best do this. E.g. Damus will blur images if they come from a pubkey you or your followers don’t follow IIRC. I’ve seen several other clients applying some kind of filtering in the client as well but don’t remember which ones.

Relay operators can also blacklist/whitelist pubkeys, ban IPs in the FW etc. All this stuff is currently being explored and tested out.

In nostr, a user is the private key you hold yourself so it’s not possible to «delete» a user. When it comes to notes, relay operators can delete whatever they want, whenever they want. All events are simply stored in a database that the relay operator have full control over.
