nostr:npub1hpcdfjpxrawnmu6ryh36ce7xu4qd54pu6xca394yhvmyzlery0tqvghjn3 journalists are likely to say they're just reporting the board's view, not making their own judgement. They're avoiding libel claims. It's the same when they use "scare quotes". But they seem happy enough to print lies when it suits them. It's all weasel words.
I'd love for journalists to just come out and use the words racist and sexist, wait for the libel claim, and prove themselves right in court.

nostr:npub1shw9yn8j44v9h8y3f3czfrpr9q9d5750jlf5xgxljkjhwr508wjsejaesf I'm a journalist and I could write a headline for this story that would be more accurate and be just as legally sound.
It's interesting that I posted two similar stories at the same time but this one got more shares - I think that casual start "Oh, and..." could function as a kind of rhetorical device?
Like, posts which start with that kind of phrasing have more of a hook. I did it accidentally but I think some people use it as a technique.

when Meir Kahane, a Rabbi that can't be described any other way than the Jewish equivalent of a Nazi, was elected into Parliament in 1984, all other parties refused to even acknowledge him, his speeches was boycotted, and a special law was passed to bar him from running in the next election.
40 years later, one of his most prolific students is now the minister of national security who oversees the police.

I'm pretty sure that the reason both the Labour and Tory parties campaigned against AV for the 2011 UK referendum was not because of any immediate effects it would have had (very little) but the realisation that with AV both parties would eventually split up. In retrospect we can see that would probably have been over Brexit.

I tend to blame the people, because none of these appeasement politicians are lunatics, fanatics or extremists who try to sell their agenda no matter what.
They are just career politicians who carefully calibrate their words and actions to the probability to get votes.
Don't know their names in Norway, but here they are called Söder, Merz, Wagenknecht....

So who's to blame?
The politicians or the people?

It was a major shock to see it all come back and get mainstreamed, albeit with a broader choice of targets.

Thankfully the UK &NATO chose to accept Russia's fake explanation rather than escalate things when a UK spy plane in the Black Sea was shot at & fortunately missed. The US can be trigger happy too.
