One of our readers asked if there’s an open source way to download Youtube videos, for music mp3 or the entire video. Yes, there is.

For web browser,

There’s Invidious,

https://invidious.io/

You can use their list of instances or get served up a fresh one from farside.link

For Linux & Windows desktop,

There’s Freetubeapp,

https://freetubeapp.io/

You can download on FreeTube, but as a heads up, it doesn’t tell you the progress which is frustrating for a longer video. As a tip, if you do a lower quality, it will be faster to help with this issue.

For Android,

There’s NewPipe, which is an F-Droid FOSS front end for Youtube. You can download on here, and minimize videos while they play, which Google itself blocks on the real YT client.

For command line,

There’s both Youtube-DL and Youtube-DLP

One of our readers says the fork, Youtube-DLP is way better:

https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp

Our reader Vidar uses this with Termux on Android.

&

But here’s the older original for comparison Youtube-DL:

https://ytdl-org.github.io/youtube-dl/

For browser extensions,

There’s Firefox “Video Download Helper”

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/

https://www.downloadhelper.net/

Although I personally can’t vouch for this.

Got more ways? Comment below, I’ll add em to our site

Newpipe's the best, because I can also download my music from SoundCloud when on an inspirational streak

I have the feeling that Bitcoin is attracting the brightest minds in the world.

You're touching on a lot of stuff that I've been giving a lot of thought to recently, as I think a lot of Bitcoiners should be doing. The most important part, that you left open at the end of your note there which was a nice touch, is to overcome one's conditioning to think of one's self as a citizen of a nation. Everyone around the world is force-fed propaganda from birth about the greatness of "their" nation, and just sort of sleepwalk through their whole lives without questioning it in the slightest. Even as someone with a Canadian passport, I can admit to having drunk the koolaid in my impressionable youth. That said, I also have to admit that it's a lot easier to break free of said conditioning when you grow up in a colony without any strong culture, as opposed to a power centre at the heart of a dominant empire. I also haven't lived there in 10+ years which is another factor that works against the average person; hard to break free when you're surrounded and saturated with a perspective that presents itself as both de facto reality and destiny.

Once you get past that though, there are still many major problems that need to be sorted out, for example I don't agree that anything meaningfully revolutionary can be achieved online except what were doing here, which is just the very basic of preambles of theory. But in any case, you have to start somewhere, and like I said, getting in the headspace of being free of dependence from the concept of "the state" or "the nation" is a very important first step.

There must be a way for humans to be able to enjoy the fruits of evolution, tech, civilization and wealth without the need to belong to a nation, countr or empire.

There are also rights and benefits to belonging, but the more we humans become self sufficient in all aspects, self health improvement, self education, etc, the less we need the structures that are mandatory when belonging. Does this make sense?

What if… 💡

We redefined nationhood in the digital era, drawing inspiration from Bitcoin's decentralization. We’re already connected here, beyond boarders.. what if we take it a step further 👇🏼

My thought basis gears towards creating Decentralized Digital Nations, starting not with land, but with the collective spirit in the digital ether. This “new realm” transcends physical boundaries, embodying principles of freedom, privacy, and open-source collaboration.

Our journey can begin by uniting individuals online, forging a community that prioritizes digital interaction and shared values.

This community serves as the foundation for our ethereal nation, emphasizing remote work, cultural cohesion, and digital civility.

Gradually, we extend into the physical realm, not through contiguous lands, but by crowdfunding distributed enclaves, united by our common ethos.

The approach mirrors the decentralized nature of #Bitcoin —valuing network strength and ideological unity over geographical proximity. This concept of a reverse diaspora would begin online, with each physical presence acting as a node of our digital ethos.

I assume skeptics may view this as mere fantasy, yet Bitcoin’s ascent from obscurity to global recognition showcases the power of collective vision.

A Decentralized Digital Nation, The Citizens of Satoshi, is more than an idea; it’s a reflection of the evolving concept of nationhood, defined by community and shared principles, not borders.

In this new era, a nation's legitimacy stems from its community, transparency, and societal contributions, much like Bitcoin's rise to prominence.

As our digital nation grows, we seek not only numerical strength but also societal acknowledgment.

Here’s the vision: In the spirit of #innovation and #freedom that #Bitcoin  embodies, we create a world where Decentralized Digital Nations, guided by the principles of decentralization and self-sovereignty, pave a new path in human civilization.

Now, this could be just a crazy idea, but it also could be the start of a whole new decentralized world.

Let’s do this! To gauge interest, do you want to remain a citizen of your country? Or are you ready to pioneer a revolution? 👇🏼

Been thinking this since months ago. A lot! It is super nice to see you guys also considering this. Let the epiphany begin!

To all sat stackers ⚡out there

You can feel sad because you're not stacking too many sats...

Or you can be glad that you're stacking some, because the future is bright...

You can see 5 sats as too low of an amount today...

Or you can see 5 sats as an amount enough to buy yourself a good breakfast tomorrow...

You can see wealthy people with lots of Bitcoin and feel that you have not enough.

Or you can see wealthy people with lots of Bitcoin and feel grateful that they're contributing to your sats being super valuable from here on.

The cup is half empty

Or half full.

Keep stacking, dear user. Bitcoin is not like the previous financial systems. And one day you'll realize why.

Have a nice weekend!
