That’s why translation is so interesting. I enjoy reading about the writers (especially the poets) who become translators — they are encouraged to translate to understand language in a deeper way. I wish I could read both— the original & the translation. I’m really enjoying & learning a lot as I read Phenotypes— very relevant & important — both personally & for the world in general.
“small counsels” — are they needed? For whom?
Sadly, a common occurrence according to many I talk with…
Anthony Hopkins performs great as King Lear as well as Zorro!
My friend was working on her PhD & asked us to read it with her— it was a class requirement & we are in a book club together. It was her month to choose a book. Scary but fascinating.
I have a deep respect for translators & the art of translation since I benefit from their craft. I hope some of his poetry gets translated into English & more one day.
Not sure what movie this quote is from but speaking of Anthony Hopkins…a part of Silence of The Lambs was filmed in Pittsburgh, PA where I live. And speaking of psychopaths… this audio book is great https://www.audible.com/pd/B00J9RYO6Q?source_code=ASSORAP0511160006&share_location=library_overflow
“I was purple with rage. The steak was green and I was purple.” ☺️
Sorry for the typos— original text included though 📸. I rely too much on copy & paste. ☺️
“No, I've never been afraid of offending them. Everybody else Isce around me seems afraid of it, of letting them down, bur on the contrary, I want to offend them so that they'll know we're not all at their mercy. When you go to buy a steak and they keep showing you the 'good side', the red side, I say, Trd like to see the other side, please? They always answer, I'lI show you the other side of this one - they're both from the same cut.' And they put the first bit to one side, with the surface you're not supposed to see facing down.” ~Marguerite Duras from “The Green Steak” #bookstr

Beautiful! It is a sweet little village. Thank you for sharing! Do you carry home any local folk tales/books?!
“You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions."—Naguib Mahfouz,

“To write a series of poems out of extreme illness is a bracing accomplishment indeed. In “Deluge,” her first full-length book, Leila Chatti, born of a Catholic mother and a Muslim father, brilliantly explores the trauma. In a frightening two-year saga of a tumor and the “flooding” it caused, Chatti finds not disassociation but deeper association with her own experience. Her strikingly personal relationship with Mary — who appears in both the Quran and the Bible — becomes a profound and steadying compass, as do lines from many other poets and philosophers, woven into the text in cento style. Selected by Naomi Shihab Nye”
