Back in 2018 Open Dialogue Foundation, my family, our volunteers, lawyers and accountants were under attack of three authoritarian regimes: #Kazakhstan, #Poland (Law and Justice ruling party at that time) and #Moldova (oligarch #VladPlahotniuc regime) which weaponized our banking data in the very heart of the #EU.

We testified in front of 27 representatives of US regulators that for us bitcoin it is a #freedomtech tool, that is why we believe that it is important to educate regulators in democracies and protect p2p bitcoin transactions/privacy payment mechanisms and PoW.

We have testified that it has cost activists the risk of kidnapping in EU countries, surviving torture, years of imprisonment or even political murder as a result of abuse of AML/CFT laws and #FATF compliance both domestically in authoritarian states and abroad where any dictator can easily obtain your banking data.

Im afraid that his banking data could be one of the main source of information to follow him… enough if third/proxy state do request on “suspicion of violating AML/CFT compliance rules” and that’s all.

In BTC Pay Server you can have lighting address like an email.

Invoices with a limited time and different addresses as far as I understood it is kind of protective for your clients and you.

Perfect example when good politicians protect human rights against bad politicians.

That is why I encourage bitcoiners to educate them in changing false narratives against #PoW and #bitcoin.

We need these stories to be known as an example what does it mean in practice when your banking/financial data exposed to dictators.

I understand, blocked internet means blocked information also. That is why we need to have independent internet too. 🫂

Actually, it was one of the most dramatic and darkest day in the history of #Kazakhstan: the regime not only killed bitcoin mining but gave the order to shoot peaceful protesters without warning. Over 10 000 peaceful protesters in more than 80 cities were arbitrarily arrested. We identified over 200 people were shot, including 5 y.o. children…

Together with our network of 10 k human rights volunteers we were documenting mass shootings and torture after president Tokayev employed Russian troops in Kazakhstan.

Some of our activists were arrested because of weaponization of banking data: regime precisely knew who was getting our support or donated us to in support of victims of political repression.

It takes 3-5 min for Kazakhstani special services to block your bank accounts if you fundraising or donating to opposition or human rights defenders to support victims of oppression.

We asked #FATF and U.S. State Departament, European Commission and legislators if they are aware about the scale of repression and financial exclusion as a consequence of abuse AML/CFT laws? No one actually was aware about it.

So we testified that those activists who used #bitcoin p2p transactions are safe till now. But this is a reason why Kazakhstan at the front to fight against p2p transactions right now. And this is a reason why we don’t want to allow democracies to label bitcoin with illicit activities in the regulations.
