Bitcoin est aux proies d'une dualité politique.

Dans une approche libertarienne, Bitcoin est une opportunité de rendre au marché la fonction de monnaie accaparée par les Etats. La séparation de l'Etat et de la monnaie permettrait de diminuer le rôle de la puissance publique dans la société. Mais dans une approche issue des biens communs numériques, Bitcoin permettrait de compléter l'action de l'Etat en développant des formes de gouvernances auto-gérées dans un domaine jusqu'à présent fermé aux alternatives.

L'Histoire de la monnaie sera probablement construit conjointement par les deux approches. Mais Bitcoin restera et les Etats s'en trouveront profondément transformés.

You may be right eventually, but the main problem yet to be solved (as it is implied by most others, and as not been solved yet fully) is identity.

How to prove uniqueness? How to prove a key pair is in the control of one and only one human being, and stay under his legal control?

Think that you are just born, how to control that this is true, link whatever biometric info and third party claims to a brand new key pair and give its control to your parents?

Some solutions come from current work done on that side (like #did), often linking a key/pair to a set of 'claims' provided by third parties that give a good level of confidence to your identity.

The control of the key is also very tricky: you need ease of use, rocket proof recovery, légal transferts management.. Difficult to achieve without a central entity having some control of your key...

We need to solve the 'One man, one vote' issue.

Am I the only one to often get issues with USB-C charging on my phone? Works like a charm for months, and someday it becomes harder and harder to use: the thing is plugged-in, but it seems even the slightest misplacement stops charging.

Silent Payments are clever: you create a shared secret (ecdh) from a utxo and a public silent payment address. Then you simply add (tweak) this shared secret into this silent address.

The receiver then scans the entire utxo set, looking for any payments to this silent payment address tweaked with the shared secret from all taproot/pubkey inputs.

For onchain zaps, you can skip the scanning process and just send a giftwrap with the txid and the receiver can verify that you sent it and control the utxo just by knowledge of this shared secret.

To generate the shared secret from the sender side, you need the inputs private key multiplied by the silent address pubkey.

On the receiver side, you multiply the silent address secret key by the input’s pubkey.

This gives you the same shared secret which you can use on both sender and receiver side to validate the onchain zap.

The nice thing about leveraging silent payments is that the receiver doesn’t have to use nostr, they could just be using a silent payments wallet to receive the zap.

On the nostr side, all you would need is a silent payment address in your profile. Heck you could even use the users pubkey itself as a key as a less secure silent address fallback if they don’t have one in their profile.

This chaos is not the result of "innovation". You can innovate without making a gigantic mess of things.

This is simply poor process management.

1) The people managing the protocol repo also tend to maintain popular implementations, so the chaos keeps their competition down and they are prone to using the NIPs as the technical spec of their product.

That is an inherent malincentive of dual-market capture (the dynamic implementations and the static specifications) that should be controlled for.

2) It is not clearly defined what a NIP covers, so things keep being shoved around and rearranged. Does a NIP cover a technical topic, basic features of a particular implementation, a minimum viable implementation? Depends.

3) The NIPs change so often and dramatically, that new and smaller developers tend to focus on implementing NIP 01, so that their stuff simply works and they can at least produce one note that people can read.

But now the content of NIP 01 is being dramatically altered, without any wider discussion. That means most implementations will no longer conform or will have additional NIPs that they have to track.

Guys, help me here. I’m a restaurante owner and decided to accept bitcoin as payment method. Should I precify my meals based on BRL/BTC conversion or precify in bitcoin? If I precify in bitcoin, how can I know how many sats to charge since we don’t have people doing that already… for example, how many sats a bottle of water is worth?

I mean, I know I can simply convert at the time of payment.. but I would love to have a fixed price in sats for those things..
