I bought a Stan Grof book recently, and talked to a Grof breathwork teacher.

The Cold War era was a tough time. // I’ve come to believe a lot of memories are stored in the body, every in infancy. These imprints can flare up later in life. Self-esteem is a scam.

The concept itself is from the psychobabble of the 60s and 70s and it's no coincidence that it emerged during the final death throes of the gold-exchange standard.

When you are no longer pushing the frontier, you look inward and try to convince yourself that you're doing something useful when you aren't. It's delusion that's necessary for rent-seekers because deep down, they know they're leeches.

Don't focus on esteeming yourself when you don't deserve it. Do something worthy of esteem instead.

Retreat to the physical

If you have an atheistic world-view, it's very hard to even acknowledge the existence of the metaphysical. Does a soul exist? What is meaning? Do abstract things exist?

What I've seen in this case is that such people generally retreat to the physical in some way, usually to some brain chemistry. In a sense, I can't blame them. If you deny the metaphysical, the physical is all you have and the closest thing in the physical world to the spiritual is the brain.

Yet it's a profoundly unsatisfying explanation. It's an attempt to sneak in the numinous and pretending that the cheap knock-off brand is somehow just as good.

Every technology can be used for the good or the bad. Tech is not the problem. Politics is.

Interestingly enough, that project was built using Verifiable Credentials and DIDs, and the credentials were transferred over offline QR Codes, largely on paper. It is more private and decentralized than Nostr because there is no relay to gather all the data and surveil people on.

If you don't like that project, you should not like Nostr as well.

Now that you can see the issue with rate limits on Twitter and Reddit, you will understand why Nostr is such a big deal for health care information (rate/access limits everywhere). We have been battling this for decades.

Nostr fixes it.
