Yeah, that's also a big consideration with Nostr... it's not a protocol that's easy to monetize (different from Bitcoin in that regard).
That said, most of VCs that are already in Nostr are very ideological... I know that some of them are already funding developers simply to help sustain contributions; which is amazing.
Melissa gave a great answer... I would just add that "good" VCs - in my experience - are very beneficial as brainstorming partners to figure out those "creative solutions to help devs sustain (setting up company, helping you pitch and acquire those first 1000 customers that pay bills).
The trick is - as Melissa said - to ensure that "turn around and do something totally different" doesn't happen (now let's go for 10000 customers instead of improving protocol). You want current contributors - early adopters with purity of vision - to continue making decisions.
Finally, I expect good news to come out soon... there is enough goodwill in community and this problem will be solved in a robust way!
OK, I didn't see this one coming so soon.
#nostrwelcome Matthew, glad to see you here... outside of walled gardens of corporate social media networks.
Trying to pay back on all the support I've received over the years ๐
