Meaning of โsungโ in Tai Chi ๐ค
The concept of sung was introduced to me initially as simply relaxation - the idea that the more that we can relax with good structure and alignments, the better results we will get in our training.
But it wasnโt until around 2017 where I started to hear the term โsungโ and the concept was explained to me in more depth as something like โreleaseโ or โletting goโ.
Then through practice my perspective and understanding changed.
I began to see it as a kind of equanimity and letting go in the face of physical force or even confrontation. A mental state - not attaching to a specific outcome, content to accept what ever forces are placed onto the body without resisting.
Even overriding the natural fight or flight response where the muscles would naturally contract. But that doesnโt mean surrendering either.
So sung can be thought of as maintaining an open attitude of non resistance, non fight, non contraction.
If I get pushed or hit then no worries.
This means being able to let go of the ego, the need to get even with my training partner or opponent.
In push hands being ok with taking a step rather than fighting to maintain ones stance even if in competition that might mean losing the point.
At higher levels sung starts to become โHuaโ which means neutralising force and this is where the practitioner doesnโt need to move very much if at all to maintain structure. This is not the same as bracing however.
Ultimately being released in Tai chi should mean being released in life, being less stressed, healthier and happier. ๐๐

Ok great thanks. ๐ Do you have a favourite?
Yeah Iโm here trying to get my head around different nostr clients on MacBook. ๐
Hey guys whatโs the best nostr client on mac?

Ok great. I might have done that course too, Iโm not sure. But yeah the shoulders are a massive and ongoing project.
Awesome! Yep I trained with Chris Chappell for about 3 years at Brick Lane in Bagua mainly and some wu style Taiji and qigong.
Who are you and Pete training with now if you donโt mind me asking?
Down here in Cornwall it has been tricky to find good practitioners. London is definitely a centre for Taiji talent. ๐
Good morning nostr. ๐ ๐โ๏ธ
Iโm listening to these guys right now. ๐

Ah dammit missed the #zapathon. ๐ Night nostr. ๐๐
What do you think? I have trained with some of those guys, not Mizner though. I did do the Discover Taiji videos for a year or so. I like their training around opening and release.
Nice! Just checked out some of your clips. I recognise Peter Rundle who I used to train with 20 years ago ! ๐
You all look skilled to me by the way. ๐๐
The link wonโt work on this device but Iโll check it out on my computer later. ๐๐
Does Layah Heilpern know about nostr? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
