Small set of further questions and forgive me for being an idiot but...
Question 0: how to use github? Is there a simple way like an "github appstore"? How do I know the github stuff is " legit"?
Question 1: I downloaded the zap.store via the apk (don't understand github option) and of course didn't check the hash (there are some command prompt items in the description, how to do that on a phone?
Question 2: it shows me updates available for a set of apps that are not available (yet?) On the regular play store orfdroidd or thebaurora store....
Well i think this thread is educational for how the new ones to this environment get confused by the non spoon fed solutions and alternatives to the conglomerates (google apple meta Microsoft)
Lots of kickups where people might give up... So thank you for your time and explanations
Uninstalling Google Services Framework (GSF) is fine on your owner profile, but you'll need them on the other profiles if you're not using Zap Store or alternative apps that don't require GSF. Hope that helps.
If you really DON'T want to use Google Play/GFS, you can also use nostr:npub10r8xl2njyepcw2zwv3a6dyufj4e4ajx86hz6v4ehu4gnpupxxp7stjt2p8 and Aurora store for apps that are similar or have less permissions granted (or none, in the case with Zap Store), which is what I do on my Owner profile.
I do sandbox (set up different profiles to run various apps and each type of app has its own profile that can't see other things on your phone). For example, I have a different profile for Maps and one for Banking so that when I need directions I can use Google Maps and my bank app does not work at all on my owner profile.
Thank you very much... I will incorporate these ideas along the way..... The next step is new profile and new app tires are always πππ
my bad, the app is on another fdroid repo (if you don't what that is, it's fine don't worry)
here it is on github :
https://github.com/quran/quran_android
hahahaha, we have all been there, "consenting" to everything.
what do you mean by connecting in person ?
it's just like any other E2EE messaging, No 'need' to verify the encryption keys but it is good to do so if you can especially with family members/friends
For connecting in person, unlike in apps like signal, the app kind of knows who of your contacts by as the app because linked to the phone number.
It appears I would have to literally meet the person to scan my qr or send it via email or whatever, correct?
No need to thank me, just doing my duty and helping.
I use https://f-droid.org/packages/com.quran.labs.androidquran/ and I love it.
it has quran 'themes', audio, translations, and tafseer (only in arabic)
I really do not want to make it harder for you to read The Holy Quran !
and if you want to use a proprietary app, remember to at least not give it the network premission (or any that doesn't really need internet)
This link does not work for me.....
Maybe something missing?
Let me check on the permissions... As I am new to this world, I am more used to "click consent" everywhere
By the way I also took a look into simplexchat... But there you really need to connect in person, right?
I think i get it....
I can uninstall the store but not the framework and services because certain apps need them.
Or I set up a second profile that has "certain contamination" while the other remains Foss and secure....
Is that correct?
Still, would love to zapp you a lot.... Thanks so much for your help
Do you use grapheneos?
For my experience the only function of its appstore was do download google play....
And with it some play services and framework stuff, which are all supposed to run sandboxed"...
I am a beginner of this privacy tech and also have since installed f droid and aurora....
Do you have any recommendations on how do do things better?
If I uninstall these sandboxes features, will it crash the apps or do I need some replacent application?
to share links, you search for the app in the store you have downloaded from and click the share button :)
what does Quranly offer for beginners ?
translation ? tafseer (explaning) ?
it has 4 trackers and requires 32 permissions !
Muslim Pro : 15 trackers and 49 permissions !!
I remember this to be made by a non-muslim and sold user data and maybe even locations !!!
Highly advise to replace it, you can try :
https://f-droid.org/packages/com.hbouzidi.fiveprayers/
https://f-droid.org/packages/com.github.meypod.al_azan/
https://f-droid.org/packages/com.mirfatif.noorulhuda/ (don't read Quran fom this app, the harakat are not accurate)
thanks for No Thanks, will try it
trackers are from Exodus Privacy
Thanks again... I will try to incorporate your advise and have replaced Muslim pro with what you suggested.
Quranly, I guess just offers a duolinguo like feeling to the experience of reading.
Another app I have is and I d like to hear your opinion
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greentech.quran
π€£π well I was advised to switch from calyxos (google free) to grapheneos (sandboxed google)
So it come with google app store... But I have f droid and aurora as alternatives
If you teach me how to share links for apps, I will try.... What appsrore do you use?
Quranly.... I am beginner muslim, i use it to read quran in the phone
Muslim pro, it has some features like prayer reminder and compass.... Also to read Quran but I felt it less "easy to use"
No thanks.... Well strictly its an app to scan barcodes to see the origin of products in order to boycott Israel....
The guy math-hew kratter mentioned about the bitkey the flaw of having no display, therefore being vulnerable to certain attack vectors.....
I also liked the bitkey. But if you write it down
1 key in a hot wallet
1 key in a cold wallet with no display
1 key in someone else's hands...
All together the solution is kind of good but it feels still a bit awkward....
During the work break hour, today I read the Quran for half an hour instead of social media swiping and scolling.... It's much better!
I don't work for them by the way....
If youbwant to set up a multisig, they have great guide shown to don't hat with sparrow or specter. Also somehow, the wallet itself will confirm that it's part of that multisig. I haven't tried that out yet but was thinking about it.
Other than that they are really easy to use, and I would think they have all the feature one would need.
The price is 150usd, maybe that is the reason?
I Like the bitbox. If you have any questions you can speak to me personally. I am surely no expert but I'd love the discussion.
Haha "enjoy"
First the in China?......the minimum quality in China is Starbucks......

Love these beats.....
I think with the help of friends here, i got the main issue, keyboard input, solved...
However a phone free of the conglomerate systems means bringing friends and family over to threema signal and other apps... creating the network effect amd bringing this phone to life...
