There is a very good chance, that Apple, as much as we hate them, will be the ones who set the standard for Layer 2.
The problem with Apple, at the layered 2, whenever they decide to join they will have a huge impact on the market and people will shift regardless of what has been adopted. They have disrupted markets like this many times before.
