Dutch, former US greencard holder, now living in Cyprus I do bad things to code (Hello search engines, this is the Mastodon account of Eniko Fox)

saw a post on bsky saying the poster has noticed a huge portion of newcomers joining long covid patient groups saying their 3rd infection got them

very worried about the future of public health when ignoring covid for a few more years. what happens when previously healthy people are on their 5-7th infection?

wanting to putter around with a design for an isometric game for my fantasy console but i cant decide if i want to do ultima 6-7 oblique graphics, 1:1 isometric, 2:1 isometric, or 3:2 isometric

yiddish has a word meaning "fucked up", verkakte, which if i recall correctly either comes from dutch (verkakt) or german (verkackt) which i believe neither actually really use anymore. "verkakte" transliterates to english as "enshitted"

conclusion: enshittification is a yiddish word

After that... the SC giving Bush the presidency.

nostr:npub1y7prcdj47q4d2ddgrhpj2cpn2l3x4gr3g76d87rr5vpu9va4mm5qtn66re i mean i think the seeds of it all were planted with reagan, but until the year 2000 global leadership was still able to handle *some* crises like y2k or the hole in the ozone layer

idk if my fellow millennials feel like this too but if i had to give a starting date for "everything started going to crap" i think i'd probably say september 11, 2001

every time i look at bluesky people there are talking about others with their first names without their @ and about how toxic they are and it's really disorienting. why the fuck are people on bsky on a first name basis with the people on that platform? it's bizarre

Just saw a news story that Massachusetts made community college free for anyone 25 or older and I'm sitting here like ???????

Why not make it free for everyone?? This is so backwards???

man i am *loving* this weather, just a heat dome moving in and out and in and out and in and out multiple times in a day giving me migraines for 4 days straight

Full text search is a vector for spam and harassment and apparently it's being implemented anyway, but opt-in. Except that I can't opt out because nobody seems to think this merits its own option. I want my account to be recommended to others. I want search engines to be able to index my posts. I DON'T want to opt in to full text search. These are 3 different options, they should have 3 different toggles. Full text search should not piggyback on the other 2

EDIT: indexing by search engines is stuff like Google or DuckDuckGo. People don't generally use those to find people to spam or who's day to ruin. Full text search is within the fediverse, and people on twitter word searched for the purpose of screaming at and or insulting you all the time. I want my posts to show up on a Google search, NOT for people who are looking for an excuse to shit on people

nostr:npub19lca5xp2adz2dm20zu9e58fskmu4f5g506r7l6zpqcvqwj0qm7xq09h3vq guys who reply to everyone all the time, often explaining stuff the person in question already knows

Been seeing a few posts talking about how mastodon has a reply guy problem and yeah, I'd say that's accurate. It doesn't bother me too much usually but there is more of it than there was even on twitter

nostr:npub1mz8pcyukdvjsav64xfec06glzfc95v7wpkvc7uuqzd5dyewx6agqmey3lg it wasn't too strong but if you wanna be safe maybe go with only 1
