Oh really, sorry to hear that. I only heard that from other users they have solved this problem. I'm using Amethyst most of the times.
Just now I'm using Iris and it seems also doesn't give me those "hell thread" notifications. I scrolled my notifications into early days 😅
What is your nostr client?
Amethyst won't show those notifications unless you propely mentioned in direct reply. Snort, Iris, Nostros have "mute thread notifications" feature.
Maybe you can use one of them temporarily if your current client doesn't have those features yet 😅
Agree. If there are proper and more efficient tool existed then Thorwegian might not even probably make this. Honestly, he only want to solve his own issue which somehow brought this. Just a simple tool to debug the problem 😅

Basically, 1 counter of spam means there are 5 duplicated events by one pubkey

Actually, the main issue is bandwidth. You will need a server with large bandwidth capacity especially if your relay becomes popular

Do you want to run relay for private use (only for yourself) or public use (many users can connect and use it freely)?
If you only need it for private use then i think the easiest one is running relay using Umbrel Package in Raspberry Pi.
Personally, i think i will pick Amethyst. The second is probably Nostros. They're both native android clients.

I think it will be accepted by paid relays that we've already paid before as long as those paid relays detected as online by nostr.watch , nostr.mutinywallet.com will forward to them

You need to add your other paid relays separately in your relay settings. I think if you still have some problems then i assume it is probably due to clients bug or error 😅

Basically, it will fetch list of all possible online relays from nostr.watch and then broadcast or push our event to those many relays (a lot of relays)
