My journey of running gobrrr.me officially started in September 2021, at block height 698517, I started to build this shop after spending a lot of time in my two rabbit holes which are bitcoin and 3D-printing. It's not obvious at first glance but the two overlap quite a bit.
I had some experience in building onlineshops and this was my chance to build something entirely different. Most fiat online stores are loaded with trackers and cookies to get every little bit of information out of their customers. It is, quite frankly, disgusting for a person like me who's old enough to have had the pleasure to experience the old "open" Internet as it was back when I got to know it. My regular job in marketing forced me to work with Facebook a lot, I knew all the ins and outs of their tracking systems and let me tell you, it's not pretty. The general consensus among the people I worked with was, if you want a successful online store, you need all the tracking you can get. Not just Facebook, all of them.
Well, they were wrong. It is possible to run an online shop in a privacy preserving fashion, without third-party cookies, tracking, automated newsletters and plugins from middlemen.
Is it more work? Absolutely. But the extra mile is worth it to me, and here's the kicker, it seems to be worth it from the customer's POV as well, because I received insane amounts of positive feedback in the last 2.5 years from so many people. And not only that, many offered their support, pointed out flaws or just helped me get things working without wanting anything in return. By now, it would be far too many to list here, and I can never repay them for their time and patience with me, so here's just a general BIG THANK YOU. You know who you are.
The real news is here, because I have a confession to make. With the start of this year, I have been slowly transitioning to going brrr full time. I admit I was very hesitant to make this information public because I didn't want to jinx it, but, here it is. This little side project has grown so much, that it is my life now, and I am insanely grateful for that. Even more for all the lovely people I have encountered along the way, some of them have become my friends and I would never want to be without them again.
Am I making less than I did before? Yes, and by a wide margin. But I'm also MUCH happier because I can finally do what I love, 3D-print stuff, design cool things, build nodes and play with awesome bitcoin tech. You can be sure that everything I make, was made with <3 and I am now 100% sure that all of my previous experiences led me to where I am right now. There's still so much to do and discover.
Am I afraid of the risks sometimes? Hell yes, but im infinitely more pumped about the possibilities and can't wait to see what the future holds.
Big thanks to all customers, partners and friends for your never ending support. I deeply appreciate it!
Thank you for reading! As part of my nostr first approach. I will post this on twitter at a later date. You heard it here first. :D
By the way, this is coolest slogan ever "We want your business, not your data!!"
It's happening. The happening is happening.

Funny...was literally just looking at your site this AM, and thought to myself: "wow...no tracking cookies"...and...you're selling pretty cool stuff as well!
Well done... 😃
Batten down the hatches and stay safe...
running wireguard and reverse proxies is not that arcane... but i did extend a reverse proxy a little to add proper CORS-enabled NIP-05 https://mleku.net/lerproxy and i use https://github.com/angristan/wireguard-install to set up the wireguard connection
making a service like i describe would be a full time month's work to develop, i might pencil it in for august, i have a good feeling that bitcoin will do the 100k thing sometime around there so i'll be without great need of momentary employment, and then i might be able to actually make enough money off this, by running a decently sizable infrastructure...
or maybe i can even get funding to build it, because running good infra like this with an open source tooling and documentation for others to run various sized offerings with teh same base would be interesting to freedom tech promoters like jack
i think probably better to just build it and prove the concept, if it makes me enough money to live off then it will just catch on i guess
Not sure if it's possible, but if you could leverage the simplicity of Umbrel / Tailscale and make it an "app" that would be tremendous...however I'm thinking that this is going to require more custom networking than would be feasible using the Umbrel platform...
I'd certainly welcome getting schooled on this... 😃 (I'm just worried a bit as it's pretty clear to me already that your knowledge is on another plane...)
I'd have to disagree--at least based on Nostr, where the majority of folks are positive, upbeat and kind.
Sure some bad apples exist, but there'll always be those folks. But 'dark' traits being ubiquitous here? Hardly...
Yeesh...would have no idea how to set that up...networking is not my strength (but I am working on learning more about it).
Would love to see a step-by-step guide for this. Running a relay now on Umbrel, but it seems to really only be local to my own posts, and not sure how it might be broadcast to other relays...
GM Nostr!
When a Tuesday feels like a Monday it deserves a second cup of coffee!

"Helping you live a better life"
Perhaps you might want to reflect on your tagline, and ask yourself if behaving the way you have in this exchange has helped anyone...
It certainly isn't representative of the altruistic image it seems you're trying to promote for yourself...quite to the contrary, in fact.
Oh, if it was on the table, I would have tried at least one piece... 😃
Thanks--I can see that--but I can also see that little guy quickly wearing a hole in my jeans pocket! 😃
Hmmmm...dill pickles? Check! Sweet pickles no...(sorry)...and pickled okra? (Not even sure how to react to that...) 😃 but I might try it...
No kidding...seeing a lot of that lately!
Ok, serious question - what's the deal with the mini pry tool? I can't see that being something useful to have? What am I missing?
GM Nostr!
Going to be a nice sunny day today (even if still a bit chilly).
Coffee is hot though--so no worries at all! 😃
And feels like a good morning for zapping! ⚡

Ah--now I agree with you!!
People SHOULD save it for themselves! That was the original point of Social Security - a recognition that people DON'T save, and then the government stepped in with a "solution".
And the solution *could* work--if set up and managed correctly (which is true)--yet (as with all things government) it was completely bollocksed up.
And at this point, it really is completely broken and quite likely irrecoverable (at least I can't envision a way to recover it).
(And it never really had to rely on population growth and currency debasement--that's just been the "excuse" given for the government mismanagement and theft of the SS treasury for othe projects)
Social Security (as originally envisioned) was essentially an individual retirement plan (i.e. you pay in each month, and over time accumulate enough savings to fund your retirement). It's no different (really) than our modern 401K plans.
Simple math is all it takes to determine the appropriate contribution amounts each month to provide a known retirement benefit at a given age.
As the years progress, that math can be adjusted to ensure all beneficiaries are fully funded (say in periods of high inflation, or low birth rate, when the math and the plan should be adjusted).
Again--it's just math.
What's happened is the US is that the program was a) mismanaged (i.e. bad math, with no / inappropriate adjustments over time) and b) political reallocation of the SS funds for other projects (which is the main reason we're in our current mess).
But the math is relatively simple--the program would just need to be properly managed (and good financial planners do this now every single day).
Just don't trust the government to do it--that's been the problem.
Clearly you're not interested in debate, as you're unwilling to answer the question.
And perhaps if you read your own article you'd see the word "local" does not appear in your missive--and I'm not interested in the comments of others--I'm interested in what YOUR response to the question posed would be.
And seriously, do you honestly feel insults and rudeness help make that case that you've got a valid point to make?
