totally get your point, i'm data driven too. and you know who else? the communist party of china. plenty of evidence supporting the success of their centrally planned economy. yet, i guess, you wouldn't agree with most their politics, would you? because after all, you too have values and beliefs (like personal freedom) which you prioritize over pure data.

I would distinguish between values and beliefs here though 😃

Freedom I'd view as a "value" (rather than a belief...

Huge milestone: First demo of Nostr Web Services (NWS) bringing TCP to Nostr. With NWS, you can host any existing web application on Nostr without having to use DNS or even announce your public IP to the world, simply by sharing your service's npub (or nprofile).

Try it out the demo yourself. Here is a Cashu test mint running with NWS. Let's use curl to retrieve the mint's information. The request travels from your computer to the public NWS entry relay, then through nostr to the service's NWS exit relay. At the other end is a Cashu mint with HTTPS encryption.

I can't stress this enough: THE MINT RUNS BEHIND HTTPS!

The NWS entry relay can't read your traffic. It's encrypted. We can host public entry relays that can be used by anyone.

This means we can plug the entire internet to it 🌐.

Let's plug it into Cashu for now. Nutshell wallet supports socks5 proxies (that's how it uses Tor). By setting the public entry relay as the proxy, the wallet can now connect to a mint's npub/nprofile and communicate with it via NWS.

This is going to be so freaking cool. And it's going to be a lot more useful than just for Cashu. There are still bugs and issues that need to be ironed out but the code is coming out soon. Watch this space.

I don't think so. Most people now have pseudo-romatic relationships with their beliefs. You're not going to change people's minds. Some based people will listen and contemplate your thoughts and opinions, but it's few and far between.

Beliefs are the key word.

People rarely wish to change their beliefs (or even to look at them with a jaundiced eye). Beliefs are almost always emotional (rather than logical) and cannot be changed by reason.

Politics shouldn't be about beliefs, but for most people they are.

Therin lies the rub.

1. Im addicted to it.

2. I have way more mental clarity when I don’t check here all the time

3. I don’t need it as much as I thought I did. I could quit all social media for good and be fine with.

I do agree that you can develop real friendships with people online...and having said that, I've never really been into the social media kind of thing...

Nostr though I see as different--it's more a "free speech" platform (although I can now see it's going to be MUCH more than that...)

All politicians lie, correct?

If a politician is on the national (or even State) leve, then yes they lie. They have to in order to "move up" in the world of politics.

You can find some good politicians on the local level, but in order to move up, you've got to become part of the corruption (or you just don't get the support needed at the next level).

(As an aside, that's why Trump is such a threat--because he didn't come up through the system, he never owed anyone "favors" along the way, and consequently he's not "owned" by any political party...)

But in summary, all politicians are corrupt.
