3D printing - is it truly useful at this point? (Or just a gimmick for making toys?)

I'm thinking of getting into 3D, but wanted to get some opinions as to how folks are really using their printers...I can see some usefulness beyond the "toys" that seem to populate thingiverse, but wanted to get opinions.

How much is it? The email cost $26 for the year which was pretty cheap for me right now til I find alternative options. Honestly even spending ten bucks a month is too much right now til I find work. (Inbetween jobs)

I think that's much cheaper than Fastmail (although it depends on the plan you purchase of course). I've been with them for quite a while, so not sure what their current pricing is or any deals for new customers.

Good morning nostr, i overslept today, but i'm gonna make time to sip my coffee. All the things will still be there after that. Yesterday we completed the permanent install of our starlink. Basically just crawling under the house to connect the cabling (my husband did this part, because i dont crawl under houses), then mounted the starlink dish on the patio roof. Our signal seems to be much stronger than our Tmobile internet box we had. Anyway, i have lots of things to do today. and you want jack@jackspirko.com to be your email address instead of something like jack@proton.com or jack@gmail.com....

This is what i mean by a professional email address.

You also don't have to be constrained by your domain name registrar.

You can also purchase web hosting (I'm a fan of Dreamhost) and you cna purchase email hosting (I use Fastmail) independently from your registrar.

That let's you not have all your eggs in one basket, and have providers that focus on specific products / functionality.

Setup is a bit trickier, but the are typically great guides available from those providers.

So my wife likes to feed the local birds, and it's time to buy more bird seed...

Looked up her (well the birds') preferred seed - and it's selling now for $44.50...

Last October (yes, literally a year ago) that same bird seed was $24.50! (Looked up last year's invoice on Amazon.)

I know birdseed isn't probably included in the government's inflation calculations, but that's virtually double in just a year.

Birdseed...

Don't let anyone tell you inflation is "only" 3%...

(And if the destruction of our economy by the current administration isn't your top voting issue, well...)

Definitely need a cup of coffee to calm me down...

It shouldn't be considered libertarian or anarchism to just want the government to be less bloated and more fiscally responsible.

Maybe just as a start we stop sending trillions to fund overseas wars and try to not grow the debt. Many countries don't fund other people's wars, this isn't libertarian utopian philosophy.

The government should be subject to the same rules.

(AND the corollary should be that their ability to tax must be constrained--politicians must not be allowed to unilaterally increase taxes whenever they feel they need more "revenue")

Even when you know a loved one is likely going to pass away soon, it's somehow still a bit of a shock.

My granddad died this morning. It's ok, it was well past his time. I'm sure he's at peace now.

Knowing those things somehow doesn't make it hurt any less though. 💔

Oh, that is CLASSIC!

My grandfather was a pharmacist in Cuba and he also started a little toy store.

The Cuban government took his toy store, pharmacy and middle of the road house that my entire family lived in and gave us an apartment. The house was given to a military official.

Self custodying words could have protected two generations worth of saved value. My family will never forget this and never trust a government to protect the value we store.

And many have still not learned that painful lession...

feels like there's also a fair amount of regular posters who have stopped being regular, and the irregular posters have stopped altogether. But also I'm looking at nostr less, and mostly on uk-time nostr, which may make it even quieter for me.

It's possible it could be good for nostr in the longterm, better to have a slow and quiet feed for the refresh it may need? out of the bitcointwitter2 reputation. Who knows
