"Freedom of speech is being able to tell someone else something they don't want to hear." "No matter what you say, someone is going to be offended." "Once you realize that politicians are not altruistic, and that they're in politics for themselves and their own personal gain, then everything makes sense." "No one is above the law." "Have you ever met a poor politician?"

GM Nostr! Happy Saturday!

Time to send zaps and drink coffee!

I have no problems (at all) with not offering shipping--but I do have a problem saying you'll ship and then declining.

Also, seems they will ship to some zip codes...and not to others...which to me is even worse...(zip code discrimination).

Color me frustrated...but most companies simply don't care about customer service / satisfaction, and feel they can say anything in their advertising...

(There are some exceptions of course, but they are few and far between--but when I find a good company who values customer service, they earn my business, even if they're more expensive).

Well, I ordered the T-Deck Plus (figured the GPS module would be good to have, and you also get the battery). And they had 10% off for black friday, so that essentially paid for shipping.

I can always print a new / different case if needed...but will see what "stock" gets me (thinking it'll likely work for my use case).

😃 Will keep you posted on my progress...

GM Nostr! Happy Black Friday!

So have been shopping for a new TV on BF...had settled on one from BestBuy. Logged in, put it in my cart, selected free shipping and ship to home...and...

BestBuy then says they won't ship to my home. I've purchased from them before, and have had items shipped no problem, but apparently despite thier advertising free shipping, they won't ship a TV....

So frustrating--customer service is simply non-existent in today's world, as is decpetive advertising (and the old "bait ans switch"). Whatever happend to honesty in advertising?

Sigh...definitely going to need a coffee today...

Thinking more about this--and I believe I may have a solution...

I could put "threads" on the end of the case where the USB port is, and then have a screw on cover for that area (that you could seal with an o-ring).

That'd maintain access to the charging port, while offering a weatherproof design for when the device is in use...

Will take some re-engineering of my current case design, but betting I could make that work...hmmmm...

Yeah, that's certainly a possibility, yet I've never really liked doing that kind of thing (always seems less than elegant)...

What I find frustrating with USB is that all the cords are different--while the plug itself is standard, the plastic surrounding the plug varies wildly...

And the RAK module I have has the USB-C ending almost flush with the board itself--so you really need to account for the plastic on the cord for your enclosure (although I may try to work around that at some point).

Even so, with USB-C it'll never be completely waterproof...what these things really need is wireless charging! 😃

(And the same with trying to attach a solar panel--no good way I can see to waterproof this elegantly--may just have to put it into a Pelican case or something similar)

Thanks - this is helpful. Might have to try this at some point, although I expect others will likely continue to develop for the T-Deck platform...may actually wait a bit (and use the current nodes I have for a bit) and see how things come along--may even be some additional devices with keyboards and I think that's where #meshtastic is headed...while it's cool to link to your cellphone and have a low-power node with a battery that lasts forever, the true utility here is to have something fully self-contained in a single device....

GM Nostr! Happy Thanksgiving!

Turkey is getting ready to go in the oven...lots more cooking to do...

Time for some coffee first though...

Love it...built a case for my RAK nodes as well...

Would like it to be waterproof, but have to have a way to get to the USB-C (as well as the reset button) so...

As hard as it might be--wouldn't there be a way to create toolsets to stop the spammers?

I'd rather keep everything open, create good tools to help manage nefarious actors, and allow anyone to run a node easily...

(Pipe dream perhaps...but if Nostr becomes centralized we risk losing the free speech aspect)

Do you have a source for the new UI? I see everything has been pulled from GitHub--so not sure if the dev has given up, or what the current status is of that build?

Hmmm...really? That's disappointing...I really want something that will last at least one day before it needs a recharge.

The RAK units I have now have been up for days (one on my desk right now has been on for 44 hours, and is at 53%...and I think I've restarted it a few times as well).

While I like the idea of a keyboard (well, I love the idea of a keyboard and a self-contained device) the battery life of the RAK is really tough to beat (and again a great "selling feature" of those units and #meshtastic in general)

Interesting...the new ROM that folks have been talking about is no longer readily available (although I did find a copy).

Hoping that isn't a stillborn project--still, the T-Deck is such a great form factor, even with the standard #meshtastic interface it still will likely be an improvement over a typical "box".

Think about it--when you talk to someone you can never "take back" the words you've said....

Same with email...once you've sent it, you can't really pull it back...

If you want to edit your message, do it before you hit send...
