Got another big storm coming through and needed to get a sump pump installed under the house, but was feeling a lot of resistance to doing it. I was complaining to my 9 y/o son who proceeded to tell me,

“We’ll, you made me do my homework and I didn’t want to do it, but when I was done I was happy it was out of the way, so I’m gonna make you do that so you’ll be happy tomorrow when it’s raining hard and it won’t be flooding under the house.”

So he held the light for me while I crawled around under the house and got it all situated, and helped me run the hose out so that now we should be all square.

It was just a really nice moment with my son that I never shared anything like that with my dad, so it just felt really nice to know that my family can really be a mode of support and motivation for me that I never really got to experience as a child. Having a family is a nice way to get to rewrite those kinds of experiences for ourselves in meaningful and wholesome ways like that.

Anyone got suggestions for a decent movie to put on tonight? Looking for something to just zone out and turn off my brain for a bit.
